What I did was united. Com and check every day by putting flexible dates. Let us say I was leaving in October ad I put October 5 and check 21 days a table comes up showing fares. If it is high I redo it saying 20 days. I check like this every day.

Most important is you need to be ready to go on those dates with cheap prices.

If you put exact dates you will not get these rates. Just to let you know one time I got $550 rate on united. Com orlando-washington dulles- narita- manila. But when I tried to book it did not take instead website gave a phone

Ot a very good price and when I called the same way lady was helpfull and booked it. At that time she said because of narita. Manila trip is by ANA there is a problem booking on website.

So this time when I saw low price and all flights were on united I had no problem booking

Not that is really matters, but the 747-400 has plenty of range for ATL-NRT. ORD-HKG is a much longer flight and a. 400 is used on it everyday. Of course there might be some factors on a specific day, but I know that the 747 is used out of ATL. Also DL has service from MSP to Asia as well, and they use the A-330 / B-747 / B-777.

Another fare strategy is taking a major airline to one of the waypoints and then finding a low cost carrier airport that has flights to your final destination.

You can save some major currency with this flight trip, there is a downside to this with risk that either carrier at the connection airports is delayed causing a missed flight on the other carrier, checked-in baggage transfer / missing / delayed since there is different multiple carriers involved that has no relationship to each other.

There is an upside to this fare strategy, definitely recommend purchasing travel insurance if you chose this journey.

So a 747-400 going from ORD to Hong Kong has about 1800 km to spare. Also, I've noticed the big planes have some compartments through the galley or bathroom areas either up or down, presumably for crew members to sleep between shifts on long flights. So hopefully they have a few extra jerry cans of fuel stowed away in there that the crew can pour into the tank in the event of strong headwinds. They're pretty good at sneaking them on before the flight so passengers don't see them.

I am not sure when the last passenger 747-400 was delivered, but it has been a while. The last ones off the line were all cargo planes. There are a few of the new 747-800 out there, but to be honest I think they are freighters as well. I may be wrong about this, but I know that no US carriers are operating them.

Both the 777 and A330 have a bigger seat pitch (distance to the seat in front of you) than the older airplanes, plus the width of the seats and arrangement is different in a good way. The one thing I really dislike about the new seats, is they are using a different material in the seat bottom (read lighter) and I don't think it is as good a cushion as the older ones. IMHO.

The newer airplanes had a digital entertainment system, while the older ones are still using tapes in multiple decks.

Funny you should mention the "extra fuel", but some models of the 747-400 have fuel tank in the horizontal stabilizer (the tail) that would increase range, and you are correct that there are "extra" crew on board, at least in the cockpit. The airplane only requires 2 pilots, but the long haul flights have 3 or 4 depending on flight time. The cabin staff go on breaks after the service is done, then everyone is back up for the last meal service. The cabin staff rest area is either above the cabin (Boeing) or in a special container in the cargo area that is accessible from the cabin (on the Airbus). The pilots rest area is in the rear of the cockpit or above the cabin in the front of the plane, depending on the type.

Delta was suppose to have all their 747 redone by the end of this year. Other airlines I can't tell you about. Will find out shortly if they are telling the truth. Otherwise consider it a trip to the past in interior decorations.

US airlines pretty much has control of the cabin configuration from seat equipment to pitch, legroom, number of seats in each cabin class, etc. And entertainment systems subject to FAA approval. Boeing can do the cabin configuration upgrades and perform excellent work, it's like taking your vehicle to the dealer along with the higher cost, most do them in house or use an overseas FBO since it's more cost effective.

Most airlines operating the B747 equipment elect to spend very little money on passenger cabin up-grades on this older type of equipment due to future retirement plans. B747 is not very fuel / cost efficient flying passengers because they are high maintenance LOL, B747 is better suited to flying cargo / freight because they don't complain (Cargo has much better revenue per pound then passengers). When you see aircraft still with the aisle overhead video screens, it feels like you went back in time but your age stayed the same. LOL

Posting a late report on my 2-day stay in Manila before heading to Angeles City.

Stayed at the Boulevard Mansion, which was okay, almost directly across the street from the US Embassy. Get a corner suite if you plan on staying. Nice Kitchen, decent sized fridge but wifi is best the closer you get to the elevators. Maybe the access point is in there? I had my best reception sitting next to my room door, but then again I was using my phone's wifi and not a computer.

Arrived to a 300php cab ride to the hotel from Aquino airport after hitting up a green cab, then a yellow cab. Avoid the freelancers illegally trying to get your business right outside of customs for twice the price. I was beat from the long flight so decided 300php was just fine. I know I could have spent more time finding a cheaper ride but was anxious to get settled in and start the fun. The security box for Boulevard Mansion is behind the front desk. You place your valuable into a make-shift safety deposit box so the employees can't really see what you are putting in. I placed my stuff in a pouch prior to doing this as an added measure. Not too bad. Drop off the key as you are leaving and retrieve it when you return. Headed to EDSA complex after a s, s and s. Ar 200php 15 minute cab ride which was ok by me.

EDSA complex if full of good looking, young women. They seem like they are in a big city on my reflection after. Saw a mamasan my friend knows from 5years ago. Whisked us into Firehouse after 10 minutes of catching up. The other bars there sure had some pretty door girls that I wanted to sample. Ahh, save some for later.

After being seated at the bar MS said she had some recommendations for my friend and I and that we wouldn't be disappointed. She called over to 19yr olds. Gorgeous girls, fun to talk to which my friend bar fined his within 10 minutes. Oh no, I thought. Too soo because I didn't really get a rockin vibe from the girl I was recommended. We then decided to cut our stay short in Manila and head to Angeles. This turned out to be our best decision the whole trip. I'm done with Manila. Until.

We had one night left as our arrangements for a car was the next day. So we hit MBC to have a few drinks and kill the time. MBC is a freelancers are with the atmosphere of a sex nightclub. It was crowded and the girls plastic and businesslike. We stayed for an hour and decided to leave. We were hungry so we hailed a cab to take us to someplace to eat. As we were inquiring with the driver as to where is good, I asked him if he knew of "La Casa"."Oh sure" he replied and off we went."La Casa" are local *****houses that are very well hidden. It turned out that he had heard about them and kind of knew where they are but wasn't exactly sure. Well, he turned out to be the diamond in the rough as he went person to person trying to find "La Casa" for us. We finally met an owner of 4 Casa. The first turned out to be a pass. 30+ women that I know had kids. The 2nd was a bit better as well as the 3rd. So we decided to hit the 4th. The 4th turned out to be almost as good as EDSA! 18-30yr olds, more slender, prettier, smiling, joking. Best part was the price! The owner tried to give us the "tourist" price but our cab driver went to bat for us and got us a 800php price for all night. Needless to say,"La Casa" redeemed Manila as a place to monger for me! Oh, and the girls were hungry to serve! Totally different from EDSA.

I must say, finding our cab driver who stuck up for us when too many irrelevant questions were asked, went to bat for us with the pricing and just kept us safe was the best thing that happened. We eventually bought him dinner and some foods to take home to his family. He is not happy about doing this but he also understands business is business and is willing to do it.
