I would not make a special trip out to that area as when I was there about a month ago, about 3/4 of the shops were not in operation and I went on a Friday at 11 pm-ish. However, the RLD is right next to the Times Square Mall. If you're there for a movie or something it's worth taking a look.

I think something to consider is how much you are open to exploring. If you like to be on the easy, safe side, your best option is a well established anmas such as Eve, Ace or Fish. They're well lit, clean and honest. However, you will pay for it. You can't expect the best service but you can at least count on getting service. Plan to spend around 250,000 for one hour.

Another good place (already recommended) is Texas Miari RLD. You will find service here.

However, if you're a bit more of an adventurer, a place to try your luck as a foreigner is the Seolleung Station area (Green Line #2). Seolleung is gangnam's finance district and foreigners are a very common sight. There is no RLD per say but the streets behind exits 5 and 1 are a good place to check out. There are many small anmas that you can walk into and on weeknights (after 10 pm). These places can be harder to spot and often operate on one or two floors of a building. Be mindful, however, that many of their signs will not advertise that they are an Anma. Many will just have their name, such as "Apple" or "Eye. " If it's a simple sign with just a one-word name, chances are, it's an anma.

There are also guys on the street (called "Pickings") who may approach you and ask if you're looking for a girl. Competition is high in this area so the chances that one establishment will take a foreigner is decent if you just take the time to shop around. If you strike out, no problem, Fish Anma is just one block north and Hera Anma is one block west ($5 taxi ride).

Another area to check out is the Nambu Bus Terminal (Orange Line #3) area. The streets behind exits 9 and 10 will have a lot of bars, singing rooms and of course, anmas. My best advice is to look for an anma that has one of those portable, inflatable sidewalk signs outside with Japanese writing. This is a clear indication that they are not a "Korean only" establishment.

Although some may disagree, I always advise friends who visit to wear a suit while punting in Korea (not in Itaewon of course). It can make a huge difference if you're trying for a place that normally services Koreans.

Officetels without the ability to speak Korea is really tough. Most will just hang up on you.

As far as those boutique places with the BMW pick up (known as room salons), I liked them. However, I went with groups of Koreans. There are a lot in the Sinsa / Apgujeong Station area. But, if you're going solo, I would humbly advise that you pass. Imagine paying to get into a VIP room at a night club, but you're alone with a girl that you just met, who may or may not speak English. Yeah, it's much more entertaining to be with friends.

I used to be very active giving advice but honestly, Seoul is not what it used to be 17 years ago. The service has really gone down and the prices have skyrocketed. I hate to repeat the bad news, but YMMV really, and I mean really matters in Seoul. Nothing is close to a sure bet here.
