Botafogo then finally to Copa. I swear there were times where 2-3 passengers were standing with no seat available.
After 15 hours flying and connection time between flights, one must question whether an additional 20 bucks is worth the taxi investement and not riding though Rio traffic mess on a Friday morning.

What I don't understand is that it was fairly slow that night. The girl with the big price tag said it was the slowest she had seen "the house." At 500, I might have been tempted. But 2450? Not even a thought. One other thing. The in the door price is BR490. Already, they are pulling customers who are wealthy, naive, or want the once in a life time Centaurus experience. I do like your observation about the relaxed alpha male. I think that is the best approach and works well for a variety of reasons. But its hard to pull that one off on the first trip without speaking the language.
Visited Balcony a couple of times this last week. Last Sunday, very quiet. Very few women that I would rate 8 or above. Lots of 6's and 7's. (I think Sunday is just a slow day for the game in Rio. There is a important brasilian communauty here in Paris (the annual "Lavage de la Madeleine", which is a replica of the bahiana "Lavagem de Bonfim" attracts some 10 000 persons) and many brasilian venues, and admittedly, on average on ten girls, four are unfuckable (short, fat-assed and potbellied, ugly faces) , three are average, two are above average and only one is truly hot. These sharks enjoy that spot because they get away with so much out there. First, they will charge you R$300 for overnight. Once they get to your apt, they want money upfront. She probably has a shtick she tries on the newbiest looking john in the joint every night. The price quote has nothing to do with rational business logic and everything to do with Brazilian emotional logic. It's easy to understand if you know the culture down there a bit. In the tourist heavy parts of Brazil, there's this attitude / notion that gringos are a bit dumb when it comes to throwing their money around, and therefore it's the Brazilian's job to take whatever they can get away with no matter how outrageous the amount may seem.
One thing I might have tried is ask to speak to the manager and just give him an offer, just to see what the manager says.
Basically, try to be a bit less passive; asking "how much" should always be the last thing to try on your list. If you take initiative and throw out a realistic offer, the girl thinks you know what you're doing and are not a sucker, and that you like her and are not just shopping around based on price. Obviously, you have to do a little research online for this to work; and sometimes, I even ask or talk with the local guys a bit as long as I don't get the feeling that they see me as intruding or competition. Part of the hooker culture is that the girls become insecure if they feel they are selling themselves for less than the other girls in her group or "cohort" so I try to avoid haggling the price down too much with the girl. That can sour the girls attitude in the session.
Also, keep in mind as soon as the girl walks away from you to consult with another hooker, mamasan, or venue manager, you've lost control of the situation; you might have to start over with someone else or even just call it quits and leave the venue, try somewhere else. Hell, FOLLOW her if you have to, LOL! Don't let her talk to anyone alone if you haven't settled anything with her yet.
I understand that life experiences condition us that it's ok to ask how much but in freelance type P4P situations, that is usually not helpful. The seller-customer relationship and psychology is totally different. If you ask how much and she gives you a high offer, you're stuck in a near impossible situation: say yes and you're a sucker which means she'll likely shorten the session on you and tell all her friends what easy money you were; haggle hard and she gives up on you, or relents but you get a sour, resentful session, then she tells her friends how cheap and mean you were. I'd rather take my chances and make a realistic offer (I don't low-ball but I don't offer my ceiling right away just in case) and see how she reacts to it (that's a good test to get an idea what her attitude will be like in the session).
