Sydney has lots of reasonably priced hotels and apartments around the CBD area. Bookings are reportedly down at the moment, so plenty of bargains to be had. Anything in the AU$100-150 per night range should be reasonable quality and with basic services. If you book a double room, you are not likely to be bothered for bringing girls in. Usually only hostels and Y Hotels (YWCA) will restrict you.

Just do a Google search for "Sydney accommodation", or look at some of the online booking sites.
