Let me tell you some bullshit.

When old girl met me in front of Big Nectar last night we stood on the corner for a minute talking. Why did my other Cris, who spent the night the night before, and lives on Miguel Lemos pass by? She tapped me on my shoulder and said Hi, and kept walking. I was busted! Shit. (Then again, for all she knew I was talking to someone who was only asking directions.) She caught me the night before in the internet cafe and asked me why am I here didn't call her. But I was able to explain that away cause the internet cafe is next to her house and I know she always comes there at night. So it was a surprise.

Well anyway. Me and old girl ate at Galetos then we were going back to the crib to drink some juice and I know she was going to want to fuck. So we are walking up the stairs and the porter yells out Elza. (Elza is the reason I came to Rio Saturday. She flew down from Belo Horizonte to spend the day with me and flew back that night.) I look at him like he is crazy. He asked Cris, are you Elza? I said no that is not Elza. So he says she can't go in. So I tell her to wait downstairs I am just going to drop some money off because we had just gone to the ATM. I come back and we are about to go on the street. I told her to wait there. Then I go back and cuss them out (there were three). I told them don't you ever yell out a name when I am with someone. These women are not GDPs and even if they were I do not appreciate you telling my business to all of Brazil. If you want to know you ask them for their name. But you do not blurt out varias names when you do not know shit.

So we go walk on the beach. She says who is Elza. I told her it was Marina's niece and she was with us when she gave me the apartment. So we go back and he still won't let her in. He says I can't have guests after 10pm. Association rules for temporary renters. I tell him to show me a document where that is written, but he can not. So I go upstairs to get my cell phone. While I'm gone he tells her that I already had 2 girls over and that Elza is not Marina's niece. WTF? So I call Marina and tell her that there is a problem and I won't be paying for the apartment. She said that it is strange. I told her you damn right it is. After spending thousands of dollars with you every year for years I can not accept this type of treatment. That is why I'm not paying. So old girl finally took the bus home about 11:30. She is a lifeguard and has to be up at 6:30. She lives an hour away. This is a place that Marina had to get from her friend for me at the last minute because I came from Sao Paulo on an hour's notice. But they are going to be minus a couple hundred reais when I leave today. I might give them 20 reais for the power bill but that is it.

This story kind of reminds me of when people were ragging on David for unforeseen things that might have happened in his places. Something can always go wrong. I have been in hotels where the A/C was out or light bulbs were blown, but it has to be taken into consideration the person's willingness to remedy the situation. In my case I was only going to be in Rio less than another 24 hours and it was already 10 at night, so I had to make my own remedy. Which in this case is not paying. I always pay at the end of my stay. Damn a deposit or paying in full beforehand. Then I would have no other recourse besides not using the person again.

But last time I was in Rio, I had a "funny", although it could have turned bad, experience.

There were two porters in the building. A man and a woman. The man was cool, I could bring girls and he would wink at me, and seemed to find it a cool thing.

The woman was the porter during daytime. I only had two girls come during the daytime, one on Wednesday, and the other on Saturday. It happened that both were white blonde brazilian girls, so they were the same type.

So I came with a girl on Wednesday, the older-woman porter was looking at us but said nothing.

On Saturday, the other girl is supposed to meet me at my apartment, so she'd come right in. When she entered, she was like : "WTF is wrong with the woman at the door? She asked me whether I am the same girl you brought to your apartment last Wednesday. She has no business asking me things like that!".

Well, this girl was cool, a GP I have known for a while, so it wasn't a big deal that I had brought another girl a few days earlier. But I can imagine that if it were another girl, the uptightness of the older female porter could have cost me some sweet brazilian bunda.

So yes, I do ask the owners whether bringing guests in is okay. In this case, the owner said it is completely cool, but it was the ugly old female porter who was a puritan.

I used to stay at NS Copa 1085 in the mid-nineties. That building hosted a lot of gringos, Help-girls and some weird people. The porteiros working that building were all bores. Propably tired of gringos bringing GP's from Help, around the corner.

There are some buildings that have stated special rules for temporary renters. Better to check before renting.

This is (or it was) probably the best place in Brazil to pick up garaotas but on the other hand there, s a lot of hotels that won't allow you to bring one to your room!

When I lived there in the mid-80's the situation was similar. I remember that I was living in a cheap hotel, the Copa Linda, facing the Roxy Theater on Av. N. S. De Copacabana and Bolivar. I picked up a garota in a now defunct boate (it was called Malvinas. Which is the name in Spanish and Portuguese for Falkland. Then there was a territorial was for that small island between Argentina and the Britts) and tried to bring her to my place. The guy at the front desk didn't allow me to do this! I had to book another hotel on Copacabana near Belfort Roxo.

In São Paulo I nerver had problems to bring a garota to my room.

I also remember that besides the Copa Linda there was a men's clothing shop: Adonis. My running joke to the garotas was: Just look for Adonis. You'll find me! I guess that Mathusalem would be more apropriate to describe me nowadays.

I also have indelible memories of Tivoli Parque on the shores of Lagoa Freitas. They dismanteld that amusement park a very long time ago!

Ironically, the upcoming World Cup and the Olympiad has caused several of the love motels to refocus their target markets to the legitimate tourism industry and they have converted back to emphasize daily and seasonal rates to tourists rather hourly stays for lovers.

So inflation in Brazil has been 8% on average the last 2 years. Guaranteed raises (per the union) have run at around 7-8% last 2 years for software engineers. It's probably closer to 15% in terms of real prices in the big cities like RJ and SP. That is, base inflation (national) plus prices continuing to surge in the high-demand areas (Zona Sul, etc.). This is because prices take a while to cool off even if the economy itself is slowing down (which it is). In fact, the software union tried to get a guaranteed raise this year of 7. 5% and the businesses rejected it as being too high. So it will probably be around 6. 5% instead.

This hit home when one of my amigas, who I hadn't seen in a few months, pro-actively called me to schedule a get-together. And subsquently asked for a raise in my house rate LOL. From R$200 to R$250. She flat out said she was broke, and I kind of believe her. R$220 / hr at 502 plus $20 entrada. So kind of in the same ballpark, I guess.

I need to get out and hit termas some more and refill the sales funnel LOL.
