This time he made a big fuss so a couple muscular guys grabbed him and roughed him up, twisting his arms and elbows. He was in pain, so he paid it with his Amex card. They took US $5000 from his card then tried again next day for another $5000, but Amex had been alerted it did not go through. He was scared shitless.
He did not report the incident to the police but claimed fraud with Amex. After a lot of justifications, Amex refunded the $5000.
I got scammed out of $100 in fake massage and karaoke joints in Vietnam, but always had sweet, pretty, sexy girls in China and never been cheated. Lucky me.
I'm staying indoors too. Have you tried crossing the street lately. Shanghai drivers are meaner than any tout or WG.
Theres more scammers in Shanghai than anywhere in the world.
I only go to that God forsaken place (Shamhai) because of business.

After all that, and having read about the teahouse scam, he is led by another tout to the teashouse scam on the same trip. Plus, he speaks Chinese. Appreciate the post, as it's always good to warn newbies, but your friend might be better off staying in Taiwan.

If they follow him / her, the business go on, if they keep in the old venue, he is "out" of the game. So it's popular to trick around in a case like that and call the new place a second branch or tell the customers the old venue is closed.
Unfortunately this is not the case with the Kang Ding Lu Sauna. One of the "leaders" in this area has changed and shit happens, the new one is no one who has a "good relationship" with the guys who run the sauna, so there was no other choice than close it. And we have been informed, that there is no "schedule" or plan to reopen there. So seems there is only one more thing to say: R. I. P. It was a nice place and not so far outside!
Also the 45 sauna as the "follow up place" for the Min Hang Sauna has actually the same problem. They still hope they will be able to "built up the relationship", but till that will work, they also no able to open again. But we already researched some good replacements. We will do the checks and page updates next days. Luckily there are still hundreds of saunas in Shanghai (even it get less and less).
