Guys,
I have flown Aerolineas de Antioquia, Satena and Aires (now LAN) from the small airport here in the city of Medellin, all prop planes and great small airlines.
Avianca, Copa, LAN and Vivacolombia from Rionegro, jets, again great airlines.
The differance now is price and thanks to Vivacolombia for coming in and making it even better price wise.
Before the end of the year they will be going international, don't know where yet, hopefully Miami so they can upset AA and Avianca.

my opinion on your questions:
1) buy the cheap bottle of rum from barbados, buy two even, skip vodka, buy a bottle of jack daniels and for your fourth bottle one tequila.
2) they allow 4 bottles per person but they really have never cared when i brought in 5-6. it's just gets to much to deal with but the official amount is 4 bottles per person.
3) to much is made about the rain here. answer it rains hard and stops often. then it's gorgeous. when it rains do indoor activities, lunch, shop, movies, new friends. it ends quickly and then your out and about in san diego type weather.
4) on the airline discussion ag on the airlines is right thank god for the new low cost airlines to keep all the others in check. may the airfare from ny drop to the low 500's again and the tourism will return. airfare over 800 and people start thinking why not asia.

The majority of in country flights with Avianca use Airbus 320, 319 and 318's. They used to also use the Fokker 100 but have discontinued them. The Fokker 50's are used mainly for flights to small cities, I. E. Popoyan, Ibague, etc.

custom official there told me 4 bottles so did women in duty free store.
also they changed there policy. if you bring over 10, 000 they confirep001e the difference. under the law you now must use other legal means to bring that much money into the country. example bank transfer etc etc. or what i use alianza.
everything else seems right.

everything else seems right.[/quote]that ban on over $10, 000 is a real joke. that limit was set many years ago when the dollar had a lot more value. i know one fellow who brings over $5, 000 for just a a 4 day long weekend in ctg.
on another note would someone tell me the dates of the flower event in aug. in mde. i'm thinking of a trip in aug, but would like to aviod that.

everything else seems right.[/quote]the lady at duty free told me 2 but i always bring 4 and she told me that they usually look the other way (and they always have knock on wood). plus i bring 4-6 bottles in bubble wrap in my luggage. as far as asking the colombian declaration officer, ill ask him next time when i'm on the other side but after hitting the red customs button. i don't want to stir shit up until i'm on the other side.

I hate pressing that red-green button even though I have nothing to worry about I always somewhat panic when it turns red. Used to be a much worse experience, back about two years ago now it's just x-ray. Try explaining 5 iPod docks and 4 blu-rays. From my experience Medellin is the roughest airport in Colombia. Bogota is much more humane, almost futuristic entry and exit. Why Medellin comes off sometimes as a military zone. I'm telling everyone it's fine to bring 4 bottles of spirits in, they don't mind. I do it often since liquor here costs more then gold.

you are 100% with booze being liquid gold in colombia with even guaro being expensive for the average colombian. what is a giraffe of guaro in exito now, like 67mil?

I've been to Asia (Philippines, Thailand & China) a few times and am now heading to Medellin in 4 weeks.
I can't seem to locate any ideas for hotel suggestions, particularly those that are Girl Friendly w / No joiner fees.
Any suggestions and best way to book them?

Why the heck you guys complain so much about prices in Medellin. YES everything is more expensive here in Colombia. If you are broke or don have good money to expend some quality time in Medellin or in Colombia, Just stay on the other side.
