Yeah, Shanghai is "legit". Having said that, of the few I had, the women were offering more if you wanted. I was joking around with one Indonesian woman who gave me a Shanghai at Golden Sauna about getting together with her at my hotel (she was asking me about whether I was also having another "massage" while there) and realized that she was not joking in saying yes, if I like. A few years back, when I first went to Hot Spot, the price was 340 for 45 minutes. The new price is 440 for 1 hour -- still the best deal in Macau. 2 hours is 880. The mama said something about 90 minutes but I did not understand her (maybe because I was horny and wanted to see the girls).

HS only has Chinese girls which are generally 18 to 23 yo. Looks are 6s, 7s, and maybe an 8. The girls are fresh compared to the saunas that have girls who are professional and know the game. As I have aged, I like young (at least 18 yo) sweet Asian girls that are not pros. They do not have to be 10s, but be sweet and provide a GFE. On average, you will see 4 to 8 Chinese girls in the line-up. For the price, that's a good line-up. The girls speak no English but that is no problem.

I did the 2 hours just to try it and I liked it. Two pops, no rush, FS, BBBJ, relax with your girlfriend. The girl I had was 20, short, nice tits, and a great attitude with a tight p_ssy. Just got back from a weekend trip to Macau. It was a blast. But more importantly, I've finally experienced both 18 Sauna and Rio Spa once, which is kind of an unspoken but widely acknowledged perquisite for all mongers in Macau. So which one is really better? Let's find out!

18 Sauna

Pros:

Girls, girls, and more girls. The lineup consists of 70-80 girls, all of which are 8 and above. There were some 9s, maybe one or two 10s. The vast majority were Chinese, followed by a healthy selection of Vietnamese, about 4-5 Koreans, 2 white girls, and 1 black girl. Aside from the mind-boggling selection at showtime, there are quite a few girls who wander around the lounge area talking up the guys, sharing beers, and even sitting in your lap for a little flirting and teasing.

Cons:

Like sharks in the water, there is a constant stream of non-sexual workers pushing for massages, pedicures, facials, and whatnot. It never ends, unless you become visibly upset and word spreads not to bother you. Otherwise, expect to be pestered for random services every few minutes. I know working on commission is hard, but this is really going too far.

I went on a weekend night at around 9-10 PM, which is a peak hour, and so the place was absolutely packed. I was lucky enough to get a lounge chair, but it just felt much too crowded and noisy. After I got back from enjoying the main course, they actually gave my seat to another guy, and so I was left just standing there because no other seats were available. There were even guys sitting in the dining area not eating food, just waiting for a seat to open up or for a room to be ready. Now that's pretty bad.

Rio Spa

Pros:

The moment you step out of the elevator, you'll be awed by just how posh and luxurious Rio is. All the facilities are spacious and elegantly designed. The lounge area is huge, the chairs are spaced further apart, and the rooms are designed like upscale love motels. There are separate areas for everything, from regular massages, to thigh massages, to groin washing. Despite going on a weekend peak hour time, I did not feel that the place was packed, though I had to wait a bit for a room to become available.

Everything is done at your leisure. A waitress asked me if I wanted something to drink, and that was it. There were a bunch of non-sexual workers standing around, but none came over to push for their services. They basically keep to themselves until a customer intentionally makes eye contact.

Cons:

None.

Okay, if I really had to nit-pick, I would say that the selection of girls is almost all Chinese. I'm pretty fond of Vietnamese girls, and from what I understand they usually make up about 1/4 of the lineup, but at Rio, they were as sparse as the white girls. The Chinese girls all kind of looked the same too, which isn't to say that they were bad, just that they were lacking in variety.

Conclusion

18 Sauna and Rio Spa are the undisputed major players in the sauna business. It's like the Nikon versus Canon debate, two of the top dogs in the industry duking it out, with people preferring one or the other. Different strokes for different folks, no pun intended. Ironically enough, both saunas are run by the same owner.

Based on my quick and dirty review, it would seem that I prefer Rio over 18. I admit that Rio is superior in many regards and is quite flawless, but 18 really blows you away with their girls, not only in quantity, but also in quality. And the girls are obviously the main reason why we're frequenting saunas, so that makes it impossible to dismiss 18 as a runner-up to Rio.

In the end, I would have to say that it depends on what you're looking for. If you're all about the girls, then 18 is it. If you prefer a more comprehensive experience, then Rio will be better.

Of course, this is based only on a single trip to both establishments, and we all know that girls are sometimes a luck of the draw. All I can say is that if Rio can match about 80% of the girl experience 18 offers, then I'll be satisfied enough to never go back to 18 again.

I am just curious... been informed very well on what to expect but how easy/hard is to really enjoy it all if you don't speak/read any chinese?

Go to the medium/top ones and you will not have any problem
I ahve been at Rio and Emperor and all spoke good english, including hte mama-sans or managers overseeing the whole scene
Only the providing girls had less english skills....but you do not need to talk much...:)
I remember at Rio one evening, aware of the presence of japanese customers in the hotel and possible customers at the Sauna, they hired a temp support through the form of a lady (having a secretarial legitimate job day time) capable to handle japanese.
At Emperor I saw the lounge manager handling japanese customers in their own language.

The lounge manager usually speaks fairly fluent English. Menus for both places are in both English and Chinese, though it's impossible to tell what it really means. If you have any questions, just ask the lounge manager and he'll make everything clear to you. These establishments aren't here to scam you, only to happily relieve you of as much money as possible.

The girls, on the other hand, don't speak much English, especially the Chinese ones. If you get a Vietnamese girl, there's a chance she might speak some English, but usually they don't.

I haven't been to other places, but I'm assuming they're setup the same way. Obviously, the smaller the sauna is the less fluent they'll be in English, but that's true everywhere else.

Even if you only speak English, I would still make it a point to learn some basic phrases in Cantonese or Mandarin. Things like "hello", "thank you", and "goodbye" in their native tongue goes a long way. No one likes the arrogant white guy strutting in to fuck all their girls

Divine Baal - I have been to Macau twice now in about 5 years. I have tried at least 6 different saunas - and every one of them had people quite fluent in English, plus menus for both services and food/drink. It is a very easy place for mongering without native language skills.

I agree with Seamaster11 about the girls - some I have met knew some English, some were fluent (Filipinas generally will be) and others know only a few lines (the Viet girl I had on my most recent trip kept repeating "I love you" as it was one of the few things she had mastered). But fact is it doesn't matter much. They are generally going to do a routine that works quite well, and you can make variations as need (slower, deeper, etc.) with sign language... so no problem. Also, you have a chance to chat them up in some of the saunas before picking them, so you can see who speaks enough English for your taste.

When I was at Familia recently, I noticed that there were one or two server girls (the ones who bring food and drink in the lounges) who could navigate in English better than others, and they were quickly assigned to handle me. No problem communicating with them and also with some of the other folks I met (like the nice thigh massage lady... mmmmm).

I would also agree with Seamaster11 about trying to learn a simple greeting or thank you... nihao and xie xie go a long way to break ice. I find them quite successful in that respect with the Chinese MPs here in southern California as well... people appreciate a small effort to learn their language even nif it is only a token phrase or two.

I would also add that visiting the city was easy in that respect also... occasionally I would wander into a place (restaurant or launderer one time) that I could not speak English with, but communication was still fine. Don't worry, it's a very international/cosmopolitan place ready for international travelers.

To work in many Asian international establishments (especially in Macau), I'd say Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, and some Thai are encouraged. Singaporeans and Malaysians already know a bit of those languages, so they're covered. Vietnamese and Philippinos are pretty rare. If the customer only knows his local dialect, then writing is the only way to communicate.

What, yakking on her cell phone! That is a no no in places like D1 and D2. First, let the girl know you are not happy with the cell phone (e.g., by pointing at the cell and saying "hey" in a nice way with a smile). If she still continues on the phone (at least I would do this) put your cloths back on and call for the papa. Trust me, she would hear it from the papa. The girl herself is a tall (around 5' 4'' and well endowed one) from Vietnamese background. Before going to Golden Sauna, I had my session with 18 Sauna, where I have paid 1730 HK$ and I can swear that I felt much better with the girl (both in looks and service) in Golden Sauna. This does not mean 18 Sauna is not good, I enjoyed there too and that will be in another report!

In summary I felt that Management did not try to fool around but they made their best attempt to give a girl of good choice. So definitely, next time I will use their choice, to save around 600 HK$.

Excellent report!! I did not know Golden had a 730 package, I only knew of Familia that will pick for you and give you a discount for around 750. I will be in Macau later next month and I will try Golden 730 package. I agree with you, it's value for the money!
