JB is one of the posters who gives out helpful advise. I don't always agree with everything he says, but he does articulate his point of view quite openly and is generally good with sharing his knowledge. Has he made mistakes, sure. I also think he has been open about them.
I think anyone claiming they went to MDE for any length of time and everything went perfectly is probably lying. We each monger with differing levels of risk tolerance and experimentation. I have long said this board is better when we share not just our positive but also our negative experiences as that's how you can be more knowlegable and avoid scams, criminals, tough situations, tough spaces etc.
Covid has made liars out of many people as it was an evolving and hitherto unknown pandemic. Its is absolutely justifiable to make rules based on the info available at the time and change according to the circumstances and evidence. That what the medial community has done.
To me it is utterly foolish that they don't allow people to travel with vaccine passports. Its incomprehensible that a couple of months into this vaccine roll out they don't have data about the true carrier status of individuals who have been vaccinated. They just don't have the will or desire to do that right now. So Elvis makes many valid points but he makes them in a manner that is difficult to agree with him, as this disease has much qualifiers and nuance. Politically, I think both sides have messed up, and as with most things we are such a polarized country that it makes sensible policy hard to achieve. IMHO 1) if you got vaccinated you can travel freely 2) everyone mask distance and sanitize out in public 3) all but large congregations over 10 disallowed
4) vaccinate as quickly as possible 5) ignore the variants for now and work on an update for 2021 6) let the economy open up fully within those parameters otherwise 6) focus the deficit spending on those that really need it.
So many opportunities missed.
Anyway, this is a mongering board, and covid should not be the topic. Unless it has to do with how you can get it while banging the chica. Its probably a higher risk than the usual STDs right now.

He says that the travel ban was justified because Colombia did not want to devote needed resources to chase around foreigners. You know how many people had Corona in Colombia when they announced the travel ban? 75. Now there has been as many as 21,000 cases in one day. Clearly, all the travel ban did was rob Colombia of desperately needed foreign capital and did not do spit to reduce the disease in the country.
If you did not want to agree with me and say Colombia listened to the medical advisers and "scientists" and implemented the travel ban and was wrong but succumbed to political pressure then fine. To say the travel ban was the right move now which JJBirbrain and Paulie the arrogant one are saying is absolutely bird brained. To stick with that POV now just shows how stupid they are.

At the time Colombia instituted the travel ban, I said 2 things. I said that it freed up resources they could better use elsewhere. I also said that the government of Colombia was going to do what the government of Colombia chose to do and no matter how many temper tantrums you throw, it's not going to change anything.
One thing I did not say is that the travel ban would stop the spread of COVID-19. Why? Because the virus was already spreading in the country and there are a lot more people living in Colombia than are visiting Colombia.

He linked some fringe study that compared a handful of Florida counties with mask mandates against others without, cherry picked of course, and the former had slightly higher Covid transmission rates. Then there's the triumphant punchline, "See there? Masks don't work!" LOL But of course the "study" is out of court before it begins because it doesn't measure compliance. I live in a Metropolitan area, large FL county, and there's a mask mandate which from day one has been a joke. The mayor said upfront that there would be no enforcement. The bars here have been packed since last May, especially the strip clubs and masks are virtually non-existent. The same goes for restaurants, and especially convenience stores where even the employees often aren't masked. You can bet that masks are cast aside for house parties. It should come as no surprise when we have a higher infection rate than some rural solid red counties with no mask mandates. But it's been demonstrated in a number of laboratory studies how masks, and even layered homemade ones, substantially hinder the spread of infectious droplets. That's the end of the argument for anyone who is even remotely interested in being honest with themselves.
As to Medellin, I stay in contact with a few strippers that work in the Centro clubs. Well, the girls aren't wearing masks, nor are the customers to any degree. This has been confirmed on a number of occasions since last fall.
If one wants to see the results of compliance then look at Thailand, Taiwan, New Zealand, among others.
Another excellent example would be Australia. That have it practically stamped out, are not fucking around. No deaths since October!
