Mariscal and Santos Degollado from their intersection near the river to 16 de Septembre is coming down. New buildings will be going up with shops and restaurants. Some believe that the Congreso de la Unión (Mexico’s Congress) will soon legalize casino gambling and the Juarez casinos will be in this area as well. With the major Pemex oilfield in decline the need for new revenue might just push that through. If Mexico had casino gambling they could run the country on Texas money.

On a mongering note, Cleopatra’s closed the four new rooms upstairs after only a few months of use. They were nice with wider tables. Each had it’s own shower and baño. Ah yes. That was something that Chino at Queens also mentioned - casinos. As far as the area to come down, those boundaries were also mentioned in the article Clydesdale posted a link to.

Having lived in a gaming state/town (Las Vegas) for 25 years, and seeing how regs can be manipulated, ignored, and/or enforced by American standards over those years, it will be more than interesting to see how a government entity such as Mexico's will "handle" things. More than interesting. Myself, I see it as the proverbial bucket of paint on top of a partially opened door.

Of course, that will probably result in our $60 treats blossoming into CGs (casino girls) and have starting rates of $200.

Just the perception of it will lure the darkside of life - count on it. In a time when the cartels are waging war over border control, I can't see gaming as anything other than a magnet. Just another source of funding, if they play their cards right (no pun intended).

As far as us foreigners go - sounds like easy money for someone and I don't mean any of us. I'm sure, just like anywhere else that offers "free money", some mongers will run into problems because of it but my biggest concern is how it will impact the area in general. It's something that I can only hope the 'powers that be' have considered and created an itinerary for.
