1. Did you take the rates of the same day? Esprecially the pound is fluctuating very much against the USD these days. 16 was when the USD-HKD was 7.82 and USD GBP 2.05 Both is long over. That must have been between July 17 and July 26.
You can expect 15.20 to 15.80 at the most at the moment. HKD-USD 7.78 and USD-GBP between 1.98 and 2.025. Today e.g. GBP against HKD at HSBC they buy at 15.68 and sell at 15.74

2. It all varies by currency. There is no way for example to get 1.04 HK$ for RMB in any bank so far. In Chungking I have got that about 10 days ago. Of course you need to change a substantial amount.

3. Don't change in Chungking when the banks are closed (Especially weekends). The rates are far worse.

4. How much cash can you deposit/withdraw in foreign currency into/from the bank every day without paying fees?

In single rare cases the bank gives better rates. In 1992 one could make even make a small profit by buying USD from the banks and selling it in Chungking because there was such a big demand for USD cash and you could only withdraw 1000 per day without charges.

But of course if you change at the first shop you come across, you won't get the best rates.

I agree that shop run by Indian at Chung King offer good exchange rate for USD. They even have better rate for RMB than the bank at Shenzhen. It is hell to deal with bank in China. It is very easy there even for American Express travler checks but they charge a fee.

Hi Guys,
I have 2 nights in HK lined up over the hols next week. I've been reading up a little, but the majority of posts lead back to websites. I aint coming to HK to pull girls from the net. I like the sound of the YS's but I am more a fan of freelancers or even Bar fines.

If this is new, about time, if it's old, thanks for pointing it out. For those new to Asia this may be a problem you didn't realise you had. You still have no clue of what 'relative risk' means. The chances of having a heart attack in the next hour is very very small. However if you had a choice would you rather be in an 80yr body or a 20yr old. That is relative risk.

There's been a spate of adverts for sex-related products with intentionally funny copy lately appearing on walls in HK. Have the censors got this month off?? This stuff is usually so tightly regulated.

The one I saw was for Viagra... It was just a picture of a cucumber and the copy "It's HARD to believe..." LMAO in the MTR when I saw that one.

By the way, gweilos in HK usually use British-made Durex condoms to get over the size problem.
