Has anybody tried the dance halls or ballrooms (Wuting) in Shanghai? RTFF but didn't come across anything, found a couple of recent posts about them in the Suzhou thread though. I'm striking out so bad lately I willing to try anything.

My friend and I (Both American Black men) will be in town for a week. Should I expect difficulty going to saunas? We are looking to have fun with the least resistance.
It can be difficult as a foreigner but much more so for people of African decent sometimes in Asian countries. We speak 0 mandarin so we will be looking to do business through established channels.

I have been there twice with my good friend who is African Canadian. We had no problem and neither of us speak the language. I have been to Bodi several times with mixed results in the line up. 30 girls to sometimes only 8. I cannot say whether or not some girls opted out of the line up due to his presence or not. According to him all was good and he was treated well by whoever he picked. He has been back a few times on his own too.
For sure you will have no problem pulling viets from Manhattan or Judy's.

It is, however, Girl friendly. The one thing I will say is make sure SNG is in your favorites. It is sometimes hard to find otherwise. A different site seems to show up.

You might encounter some sauna girls who will not go with you due to size considerations. Whites also get that sometimes. But why not give it a shot? Like another poster said, Judys and Mandhattan would be a pretty sure thing.

I have been on nightlife tour with some black guys several times already and not any time we had a problem to enter the sauna clubs. But for sure we visit the clubs already used to foreign customers. I would not show up in a sauna that is not used to foreigners without Chinese skills, otherwise should not be a big deal. But don't forget to bring your own condom, if there is anything true about the rumors. Chinese saunas sometimes provide really small covers. I had the case already where a German guy (who was not oversize) on a tour came from the session and did not have sex, because the girl failed to put the condom on. Which was no issue for another black guy of the team, who was totally surprised that not everyone bring his own condom. From that day on I also prepare that for the tour clients. Good tip from my point of view.
And I just checked my database. From more than 50 independent girls who filled out our survey including which kind of customers they not serve, we have only 9 who selected "black" (they also can refuse Indians, which is selected significant more often), so even there would be 20 or 30% of girls who would have a problem. Because of any reason, that means also that there are always 70 to 80% of the girls who will have totally no problem with you and your friend. And many of the girls who filled the form are former sauna girls, so it's nearly sure that the sauna not built up an restriction like that.
Over all, no need to worry from my point of view, and if you get some problems, feel free to contact me and we can make sure that you will show up in places where you guys will be welcome!
I'm really confused about where to stay.
I want to try the famous saunas. Tang, mansion 45, kang ding, red house. At least 2 out of those 4.
And definately visit judy's, Manhattan.
Should I Stay towards hongkou or bund or jing'an?
Really need to book my stay today.

I do not know if that is that much of a negative. There are CCTV galore everywhere inside the hotel, so LE or any person who wanted to know, will see you having girls coming to your room anyway. To have the hotel at least get some information on the girl you hardly know, but allowed into your private confine alone, may actually have some safety benefits. (provided the ID is not fake and the hotel staff can recognize fake IDs when they see them).

FYI: 45 mansion is currently closed, and my personal opinion of red house is a sh $t hole.
