I agree with Rick Rock. With all the tools that we have now, you can basically already know the way from the station to a shop before arriving at the station. I mean, imagine what it was like before the internet. Out of the world for any gaijin who doesn't have a Japanese friend already knowing some places.
Nowadays, you can:
- check the home page of almost every shop,
- get the address and even a map,
- know what to expect thanks to forum like this one,
- find your itinenary with Google Maps.
- and virtually walk it without leaving your computer with Street View.
The thing I don't understand is why with so many options out there (even for a gaijin) , one would rely on a tout in the street that comes from nowhere. Going to a (well established) shop is so much safer. For example, when you think about it, when you go to a hotel health, you pay at the shop's desk and they send you to a hotel with nothing else than their guarantee that they will send you a girl. But if something happens (never heard any case) , you can go back to the shop and complain whereas if something goes wrong after being sent to a hotel by some random guy in the street, what can you do?
