Internet account for $3 / mo.
Is your HSBC located in Phils or another country? If in another country, does that change the rules of the game?
I have a so-called Internet account (in the USA) with HSBC, which costs me $3 a month. It's free to transfer in money from another account, and of course, using their ATMs in all countries is free.
Xoom as a banking alternative
Thanks. Appreciate the information. I have been to AC before but it's been a couple years and I just couldn't remember. I have heard of Xoom but never used it. I might give that a try. If I can get out 1k USD that should be enough for the 7 days I'll be there. Thanks again.
Xoom and Western Union make money not only by their transaction fees but also by giving you a poor exchange rate, at least a peso shortchanged on each dollar. I use Xoom to send money to girls but never to myself. Why not carry cash? Is it that dangerous? In my five trips in last one year, I have always taken cash without a glitch.
