There are possible fees your bank might charge. There are ATM fees that the local ATM might charge (especially if you are not part of the ATM's bank).
Even if your bank doesn't charge you a fee (i.e. waives all fees) , the local ATM might charge you a fee. Only a few banks will REFUND you the local ATM fee; does HSBC refund the ATM fees? If so, then it is a good bank.

It adheres to Philippines banking rules & regulations.
I have several HSBC accounts (PHP, AUD, USD) all opened here in Philippines. Their specific rules regarding limits to borrowing, limits for credit charges etc are determined in the Philippines. They have their own local website with the Philippines regulations listed there.
I have a ceiling for credit charges (VISA) that I am not permitted to exceed unless I pay off the balance. All bank fees are waived for me (including international ATM fees) because I deposit my whole-of-pay cheque directly into my account (this was a carrot dangled for me in order to get my personal account and that of my contractor).
I suggest that you check your local rules as particular benefits that you enjoy in your own country may not always hold here if you open a local account.

Thank you for your reply and sorry about the membership thing. I will definitely post up my experience once I have them. At the moment, I am still new and do not have any experience to post about. Anyway I do understand what you are saying, and I will definitely sign up as a member once I get my first pay check.
I am planning to go to for a holiday in June and just trying to get info on the different spots in Asia. For some reason I am inclined towards Philippines.
Once again I do appreciate your response. With an all inclusive price, Philippines does seem to be giving Thailand a run for its money.

Other day a family member was making a large transaction with a supplementary card, and before they could complete it, HSBC contacted me to ask if iwas ok with the transaction. Thats safety!
HSBC though, despite being touted as a global bank is basically a collection of country franchises all reporting to the London HQ. Each countries operation is separate from another, so you could be Premier account holder in HSBC HK but wouldn't get you any benefits in HSBC Malaysia for instance. Hope all well Ekspat!

ATMs at the airport use the same exchange rate as all other ATMS (in my experience) of the same type so are good to use. However, you will likely only get large denomination bills which could be a problem with the taxi driver.

I have Premier accounts in Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Hongkong, with different currencies, AUD, HKD and MYR. In every country the same benefits.
Greenbud, there is no fee at all, so no refund. When I withdraw 30, 000ps at any ATM in AC, I get 30k from the machine and my account is charged with exactly 30k. Not a single ps more.
Hi FF! Everything alright, still mainly in MY, just had a nice game of golf with some Koreans here. Why not get a device? IMO more safe than 3 passwords which are actually only 2 of them.

It's free to transfer in money from another account, and of course, using their ATMs in all countries is free.

But judging by my vists during Christmas business as usual with plenty of girls available. Most girls I talk to say they dread going home expecially during holidays because their family expects them to foot the bill for food, drinks, presents etc for all their lazy immediate and extended family. Just by working in AC they are considered wealthy by their folks it seems.
Ofcourse lot has to do with these girls boasting, buying expensive items like cell phones, dresses and jewellery whenever they have money. Lucky few will get it from their generous benefactors.

On the other hand, other banks, like RSC, BPI, etc, let you take out whatever your US bank imposed max is. I took out enough to pay for a motor scooter in 2 transactions. 20k php each, and still hadn't hit the 1K US limit.
Internet banking as another put it is great if you can work that. Otherwise, I like using Xoom to transfer the money ahead of my trip. It's easy to pick it up at any L Hullier or participating bank.

Pinga[/QUOTE]Actually when you send money by WU you can ask them to pay out in USD rather than pesos. This way the girl can go look for the best exchange rate. There are some businessmen who give better than the official rate.
Ofcourse when I go to Phi, I always take cash. Only rarely I have used ATM.
