tecnhically, september is the start of winter here, means the temp goes from 95 to a frigid 90. but sept, oct and november are notably cooler, such as it is. another factor is typhoon season is during this time, the season the filipino's call "habagat" meaning big waves/wind, great for surfing too. some services/travel can be affected as floods are common in some areas especially visayas.

now i know a lot of aussie's like to go to surigao area for surfing during this time and october there is a big event there.

there are a number of festivals and such during this time nov 1st is a big national holiday when they honor the dead, so things get a bit crowded regarding hotel space during oct/nov, the of course the world shuts down in mid december for xmas.

now none of this should seriously affect mongering which is not a seasonal event.

regarding thailand, they have a number of holidays also during oct/nov and december dec 7th being the kings birthday when all bangkok shuts down for three or four days.

Holiday "activities" came up last year. My experience was that people ask for a bit more money since "it is Christmas." Christmas in Manila was great fun. A lot of people go out and about that day. Baywalk was absolutely packed. The taxi driver said something that has stuck with me. "Even if they have no money, they go out on Christmas."

New Year's Eve is another matter. Bars in Cebu closed up early and then World War III began. I watched the battle from the top of Holiday Plaza which seemed relatively safe.

I recommend having a date all lined up and confirmed sometime before New Year's eve. And if you don't get to the bars early. I don't know what happened the evening of Jan 1 because I was already on Alona Beach, Bohol by that time.

I am planning my virgin trip to the PI in 07...to Manila, Cebu, and Angeles City within a 2 week period. My intention it to eventually retire in Cebu...what time of the year weatherwise would you suggest?

I'm still searching and researching the forums for info, but if you want to throw some ideas on where to stay temporary and possible future homestead spots, Im all ears!

Seasons are ass backwards in this hemispehre and they really are not like what you experience in the US or Europe. Heat index wise I cant tell the difference although my spouse and her filipina counterparts can, complaining of the "cold" right now, only about 85.

Thing you have to worry about here (and it is NOT a major worry) is Typhoon season. They come off the Pacific every so often and bash into the eastern side of Mindanao, bounce off the mountains and head north to smash into Leyte, samar then tear ass though the flater central Visayas. CEBU does not get much of the battering the costal area get. It translates into rain, heavy at times, some flooding in the streets where the sewer drains are stuffed up with garbage but really nothing to worry about. I wouldn't plan any sail boat trips during September. October but I've ridden the commerical ferru back and forth to Mindano a lot without any probelems other than some heavy rain.

The weather turns hotter in March and remains so until about June, which is when the kids go back to school.

Look into staying in the lahug area temporarily from which you can hit all the major shopping centers and most things we foreigners like to do. (Mongering sites and go go bars are close by). You can rent a place for under $300 a month but most landlords want a one year lease.

Also look into moving across the line to Mandau city or Lapu Lapu, personally I think its cheaper to buy property in those areas than Cebu city proper.

This is a relative new site alot simliar to the other already on the internet. The site host alot of girls from the Philippines. The girls are very pretty and are so temping to chat with for an alleged $1 fee per minute. I purchased the service for 25 minutes at a cost of $25. I chatted with two girls for about 5 minutes each. When I got my creditcard bill, a total of $100 dollars was charged to my cardcard. I contacted the website and CCbill and neither would take responsiblity for this apparent frauduligent charge to my creditcard! And where is that? In 12 months here, over a 2 year period, I've been with over 40 bar girls in JUST Cebu-- never another part of the country where I par-took in bars (usually brought my own if went).

Of those 40 there was not one that did anything to lead me to think she expected we would bareback. ALL these girls are from bars where Phil guys are the minority.

As for "normal" relationships, condoms are NOT common. Anyone who's spent time in Cebu knows it is like pulling teath trying to buy them. Sometimes you wind up waiting in line to get them from a pharmasist while others are getting there medince bottles filled. And what is really stupid is some pharmacies don't even carry them.

Yes you are correct because I believe the Phil. is more isolated and has far less tourists in general. What is more of a problem and does not get much attention is hepetitis-c. It is much more contageous than HIV and is endemic to S.E. Asia. Most people never know the have it until it is too late. With the limited research I've done, it is possible to get inoculated with a regimen of shots over a period of time. Maybe someone here in the know can shed more light on this subject.

Several years ago on my first visit to Cebu, I generally hung out with women I met on the net except for a SW I picked up only receiving a BBBJ.
