I've got to stay at an upscale place to impress clients, and the Mulia is booked. I'm trying to decide between the following. Which would you pick, based on readily available poontang (I. E. BATS, Mistere, the bar in the Hyatt / Plaza Indonesia) and fast in-room internet?
1. ShangriLa.
2. Ritz Carlton.
3. Hyatt.
4. Someplace else in the CBD or around Senayan?

There are indeed hookers, but they look like Top Gun Rejects. The hotel is getting a little worn, it's overpriced, and the A/C in my room sucks. I liked the Atlet Century Plaza better, at 30% of the price of this place.
I've historically worked in the area of the Artha Graha building and the Bursa Efek Jakarta when I came here in years past. I went there yesterday and the entire, giant formerly vacant area between the buildings was filled in with a brand new Ritz and a brand new mall. It looks nice. I wish I'd stayed at the Ritz.

I answered based on your requirements![/QUOTE]On the spot bro, if you ask me for an upscale hotel with good backup in house, I would have said Shangri-La as the girls in CJs have a crazy idea of what the market price should be. Having said that, I'm enjoying the introductory rate at Citadines on Wahid Hasyim; crappy breakfast but decent room with cooking facilities. I could have cooked better scrambled eggs in the room. But all said and done, it's good value for money. And a good base to bring freebies where no one will see you.

My final choice was dictated by where I had meetings and Hyatt was closest. I did make it by Shangrila, and BATS did indeed kick ass, much better than CJ's a few years ago when I stayed in the Mulia.

Especially if she's half your age, dressed like a hooker, and has multiple tatoos and piercings.

As the taxi pulled up to the door at Atlet to drop us off, there was another taxi pulling in right in front of us. The doorman opened the door and out popped a real cutie, wearing a very short, zebra-striped, low-cut, strapless dress. She appeared to be 16. The dress looked like it was painted onto her body. Next a fat, old (about 60) white guy, grey hair, got out of the taxi, wearing flip-flops, shorts, and a t-shirt with holes in it. His belly flopped out from under the shirt (dunlops disease. His belly done lopped over the top of his shorts). His hair hadn't been combed and was all over the place, like he just got out of bed. THEN another girl stepped out of the cab. Same zebra-striped dress. Identical girl as the first. Like a clone. Twins obviously. All three of them were happy and giggling and carrying on. We got out of our taxi and followed the happy, noisy three-some into the lobby and over to the elevators. Thank god there is nobody except the hotel employees there at midnight. The happy people in front of us were loud, teetering, laughing hysterically. Normally I don't give a flying rip about what others in the lobby think, as its usually me and one girl. She could always be mistaken either as a pro or my gf. But, with this gent, there is no mistaking what was going on.
Must say, even though I had one of the prettier girls on the planet on my arm, I was a touch jealous of the zebras.

4. You're not going to be able to date the cute young thing in reception when she sees you parading around with hookers. And expect the special attention you've been getting from the secretary in the business center to disappear.

It's always best to try and maintain a low profile wherever possible, especially when doing illegal activities! While the horror stories of the past regarding 'fix ups' seem to have diminished, it's best not to try your luck.
At the particular hotel in question I have been eyed up and down rather distastefully from delegates at Muslim conventions / conferences before. While dressed nicely and without a girl in sight. Other hotels also feature large conference turn outs of locals. The sort of behaviour described below isn't appreciated. Push your luck and which side will the hotel take? The heavy revenue, fill the hotel conference side or the one off dumb ass parading hookers through the lobby at all hours and dressing like a bum side?
And despite your best efforts, people DO notice. Even other guests. Don't wave it in their face.

I haven't checked pricing for a while (since the price climbed dramatically a few years ago) but I've just noticed this hotel must be aiming for the most web sites of any hotel in existence! Google it and you'll see.
What I'm trying to figure out is the current state of the rooms. The web site (s) are mostly showing non carpeted rooms with a fairly decent bathroom. However a few pictures are also showing the 'original' decor which consisted of red carpet, with the air con coming from a wooden shroud below the window. The 'renovation' I saw for these rooms basically consisted of moving the facilities around in the bathroom! That was the case anyway when I last stayed there late 2009. The internet was a bit of a hit and miss issue as well.
So, any further information from recent stayers? Are the superior rooms like the originals, with Deluxe upwards featuring the new look, or have they all changed? Just curious, considering the price difference between where I am staying lately and Atlet, I'm not in a rush to go back, though I am tiring of the 'why so far away' comments when I mention my hotel. Unless I'm picking up in Kota.
