I'm with Cane. I politely tell the truth and never make up excuses. I never give a girl any false hope of a yes later, I just say "Sorry but I cannot go to a room with you". Normally the response is "why not?, to which I say "I don't want to, sorry". (sometimes a really clever or nice girl can use her charm and reverse this decision on my part). If a girl then responds by saying something like "that's a shame, do you mind if I sit for a few minutes" I will reassess my decision and maybe say "yes, we can chat for a while".
