All we can do is offer friendly advice what you preferably shouldn't do but he's making his beds and now he must sleep in them. He could get jacked the next trip or he could go on for another 20 years issue free, who knows? Obviously me myself do not condone bringing anything of high value (especially jewelry) to 3rd world desperate countries. Why arouse temptation? I'm in Chicago and people get robbed all the time in the Gold Coast area. You can try to be as cautious as possible, but shit just happens sometimes. However, I don't understand why anyone would TRY to impress a puta with money / bling. There is no upside. We are all looked at like "tricks". Some more than others.

We are in a third world environment with limited language skills and shooty police protection. Long story short, just be careful. I'm 6'4 240 an I can kick ass, but if I get ambushed by a few guys with GUNS. They can have whatever. Treasure your life and chalk that experience up to the game. The cemetery is littered with a bunch of tough guys.

If you want to really impress a Chica (puta or otherwise) , get you some game, smell nice, and dress fresh.

I have been in some of the roughest hoods on the planet and fortunately I have never had any incidents.
