Quik post about my visit to Bogota
I wanted to check out Montserrat so one day I look out my hotel window and it looked like a nice day for it, I jump into a taxi, and he doesn't speak a word of English of course.
There are protests everywhere so what should be a short ride turns into a 30 minute detour, no problem, we have a set price.
We pull up and he's pointing to some stairs? I'm like WTF I read about people using the taxi for this visit, I just assumed the taxi drove to the top.
Nope he's pointing to the stairs and wouldn't you know it starts raining, well at least I brought my umbrella.
So I start heading up, I'm a stubborn monger, so I'm like no problem, about 30 mins in, I ask some 20 something chico and 4 chicas coming down the stairs how much further, and good news they speak English.
Bad news, hes a preacher (I'm guessing banging all 4 of the chicas).
They tell me its quite a ways ahead, but God will help me make it. They ask if they can pray for me, and pray for over 30 minutes non stop.
I wanted to tell them I'm a life long atheist, but I was concerned that would delay me even further, we exchanged whatsapp, but.
I couldn't wait to get away from them, I have no use for these types of people.
Pro tip (aka learn from my fuckups) #! (so if you don't want to be delayed be careful who you speak to).
Its a long climb very steep, not really any handrails to prevent falling, and crazy ass doods running top speed up and down in the rain, they must have special grip shoes.
Warning! Its pretty slippery.
Finally I get near the top and I see some cables for the tram I didn't know they had WTF?
Then suddenly I slip and fell on my ass, not so bad but it could get dangerous.
They have small gutters running down each side of the path for rain and green algae grows on the walking surface if you get too close, it could be a visit to the ER.
In any case as soon as I get to the top and it starts pouring like mad, so I decided fuck this and took the trolley down.
In another event I asked Mr E about taking the bus to MDE from BOG a few months back, he said don't do it, so I said fuck it, I'll fly.
I wanted to see the landscape, but no problem.
Well with some very very last minute change in plans, I found myself checking out of my hotel and taking an Uber to the bus station.
I took an 8 pm bus, it had the aircon cranked and was really really freezing and I like it cool, by the time we started descending the mountains it warmed up outside and fogged the black tinted windows completely.
It was a hellish 10 HR ride, we didn't get off the bus 1 x, they just keep driving winding and turning and braking, like being on a 10 HR gyroscope from hell.
I've never had motion sickness in almost 54 yrs of age, but I wanted to vomit the whole time, going to the toilet in the complete dark was, risking your life.
I tried to wipe the steam off the windows and see outside, it was dark but once or twice I could tell the bus was passing a truck in the dark on a curvy road.
2 lane road with trucks in oncoming traffic, it seemed very very unsafe, they closed the door at the front of the bus when we left BOG and kept it closed until MDE.
I just remember people blasting music all night blasting youtube crap etc people yapping on fones, it was fucking horrible.
Pro tip #2 (learn from my fuck ups) don't take the bus to MDE from BOG.
