What are you talking about??? Have you tried taking a Hooker shopping in the west? if people in the west know she is a hooker, you will get the same looks, comments, disrespect. It is just more obvious in Thailand because all the white buffalos (us) always feel the need to take the poor little brown girl our for food or gifts.
Don't blame other Thais for the looks/comments... it's just not in their culture to take prostitutes out to shopping.

The army is moving in on the demonstration, breaking through the barricades at Saladaeng / Lumpini Park.

Take a look at those pics that Tryntry posted and you'll see a tailor shop with boards on the windows, a lack of street stalls, Morning-Night bar closed. Not comforting.

But the real problem is that the rich and wannabe-rich of Bangkok, especially the women, have an almost infinite capacity for snobbery. Anybody who doesn't meet their standards for skin color, height, dress, accent etc. is liable to be treated pretty badly, even if they have respectable jobs and even if they're not with farang males. Ask any new arrival from the countryside who's made the mistake of wandering into the 'wrong' shop or restaurant. I know one who was reduced to tears on her first day in Bangkok. So yes, I do blame them for that.
