I have 4 nights booked in AC in March.

Originally was arriving after a few days in Kota Kinabalu, but my good friends at Air Asia have cancelled the route. I can pay £188 to fly with Bruei, or cancel the KK leg of my hols and have 2 extra days in Philipines. The question is sould I fly into Manila and spend the 2 days there, or go straight to AC.

Is Manila any different, or is it more of the same thing?

Both of these cities inside greater Metro Manila are different and have their own attributes - pros and cons. I like Makati a little more because I prefer a few Burgos St Bars like Rogues and Stardust over MBC, Amazonia and G Point in Ermite, but I agree with those board members who recently pointed out that Malate/Ermite has an interesting edgy 3rd world flavor to it. I like walking around here. See the recent discussion in the Manila Hotels thread. 3 nights is the minimum amount of time I would recommend for either AC or MNL in order to enjoy a decent introduction and sampling of the place. 5 nights per destination is better IMHO.

Good old Air Asia: they cancelled their route and my Clark to Macau flight. It took them 2 months to refund my credit card. Good thing Cebu Pacific was there for backup.

D, I don't see how that could possbily be helpful if the person doesn't know where MBC is.

Amazonia is on the same street, but a block or two away, so that might be the more obvious landmark. But if the driver doesn't know MBC, I guess he won't know Amazonia either.

Taxi driver's in Manila often ask me for more specific information about places they should know. I think they are just trying to see if you are a newcomer so that they can try to rip you off.

Another taxi ride that could make newcomers queasy is the ride to EDSA Entertainment. Coming down Roxas from Ermita, the best route is to turn left onto a side street just before the big interesection at Roxas / EDSA. THis street allows you to avoid the ten lanes of EDSA, but it's a dark narrrow street . If you don't know where you are you might think the driver is up to something. X.

bridge? i've dashed across that street a few times. it is much harder for the "poriner". the poriner may see a potential opening. right after that next taxi goes by. unfortunately, the taxi slows down, hoping for a fare, and your opportunity disappears.

Anyone can do 2 mins of homework and find the address on this site or google, look at the map, and walk the two blocks. I personally take the LRT / MRT to robinsons and walk.

Crossing the street is nothing short of a symphony of some sort. You just do it. You start crossing that 12 wide scooter flow and they somehow just adjust but you have to be a part of the band. Pay attention and it works. I couldn't quite figure out the buses. They seem to be out of tune.

The reports I have found are dated. Any one have any updates? One think I have learnt you need deep pockets? I have that covered a supplies treat.

Pegasus club is a high end KTV at Quezon city north end of Manila about 30 min by taxi from Makati, I been there once a few yr ago not sure it is still open or not if you go to Quezon city thread to see the latest report.
