To be honest, and I spend a lot of time in TJ, it is not likely that the drug cleanup and rousting a "tourist" at 2:30 am are related. The cops roust people at that time anyway and always have. And I doubt the cops are looking for individuals walking the streets to supplement the money they used to get from the drug cartels. The cops have bigger fish to fry than tourist. Yes, they do take people's money and accept bribes, but there is no connection between the big money they can get from cartels and day-to-day rousting.
Besides, there are plenty of people still paying off the cops in TJ. Sitting and waiting for tourist would not be logical for them to do to make up for the lose of big money. These guys have other ways to get paid and plenty of people willing to pay them.

I have been following the TJ threads for a few months. I am beginning to believe TJ is not worth the trip for me. I live on the east coast in the USA. There really doesn't seem there is much to do in TJ. I thought of staying for 3 or 4 nights but I think my time would be better spent elsewhere. Seems TJ is for people living close enough to drive in and leave the same night.

Am I right?

I have been to CR and the DR. Maybe I should try San Maarten?

I agree and have always thought it was the 'bottom feeders' who happen to know enough English to get by with these petty rip off tactics. The big boys in the force wouldn't bother.

That being said it is these few 'bottom feeders' who give the whole town the bad reputation. Word spreads fast around the world each time someone is ripped off in TJ.

What would be the rate of return (of lost tourist $$)? How about for every dollar they steal from a gringo the city loses $500 to a thousand. Word travels fast and tourists don't soon forget. A pleasant trip ending in an armed extortion robbery leaves a bad taste in the mouth and shitty karma on a city.

Don't forget Montreal and Toronto. If you are located on the northern East Coast, Montreal is an easy drive or flight, and the ladies are fine, fine, fine.

Luxury hotels in downtown Montreal are inexpensive by U.S. standards. Since the hotels are fairly concentrated, it is even reasonable to use Priceline for hotel reservations. I stayed in the executive section of the Hilton on my last trip for $80.00 USD.

The prices for the ladies are reasonable, too. And it is legal (outcall; other venues are illegal but tolerated).

Now, I'm going to TJ next weekend (the opportunity is there, and I love latinas). I plan to connect with 3 or 4 escorts, which I have never done in TJ before. I agree, I don't think the cops are after us, but when they see an idiot with cash and drunk "no offense to anyone", and walking back home, this guy makes a perfect target for a bribe, Mordida.

Tijuana is an experience. The Zona Norte is the Disneyland of mongering (at least in this region) and if you love latinas, then this place will do just fine.

If you are cashed up, then maybe CR or SA is better suited. I have to admit than living next to a candy store is an advantage, but then again many guys come from back East to "experience" the sights, sounds and especially the smells of Tijuana.

Tijuana is not everyone's cup of tea. But it gets the job done and depending on your game, you can enjoy the experience to the max. You just need to be cool.

Concerning the cops, there is no major difference in their behavior now over a few years ago. They still use the same MO and they still luck out whenever they can corner a gringo who can't hold his own and doesn't know what to do. The cops don't bother me anymore and they sure don't fuck with my girlie. I understand that they can be intimidating however and that catches a lot of gringos off-guard. It's tough to find the right balance between being polite but firm.

The only time the cops will club you over the head and drag you off is when you are resisting, are drunk, have a weapon etc. They can't take you in for being a gringo. Just don;t have wads of cash when you return, that will reduce your chances of being robbed. Be low key and don't go straying outside the Zona. It's just like the USA, if the cops see you in a bad area, they're going to talk to you because maybe you are a bad person. If you are in the zona and are behaving you'll be fine.

If you do have money, clutch it in your hand when you are searched. If the cop wants to examine the money, then count it out in front of the cop. Ask them for their name, turn the tables and interrogate them. Ask them what station they are assined to etc. If YOU start questioning THEM, they'll know something is up.

Anyhow, if you are used to SEA, SA, or DR you'll probably not find your trip to TJ to be anything special. But if you do come, PLAN.

I went to Zona Norte with a wingman after 10 pm. I liked the new layout at Adelitas. Adelitas is brighter and has more usable areas. The talent level was high on Friday night late. The club was full but not cramped. 15-20 of the girls were doing lots of business, and there were others that weren't taking any guys, and most were getting just a little business. Sunday night was significantly slower with fewer girls and customers. Sunday around 1 am as the place seemed to be closing up, 2-3 hotties at a time would pole dance and partially strip.

We stopped in to Chicago where seasoned mongers were kept company by older girls who sat with them, smiling all the while, and making them feel good. A few of the girls were really being entertained and enjoyed this, but most would occasionally look away and give some sort of look like they were putting up with this because it's their job.

He pitched a fit because I wouldn't tip him above the $5 I pay Yellow Cabbies. There were no immigration lines Friday night and Sunday night around 2 am. The car line looked like 2 hours. Friday night we were shaken down by 5 policia behind the trees near the bottom of the walkways. I had less than $10 and kept it in my hand. My friend had little over a hundred in his wallet. We were absolutely sober and did not lose any money.

When you use the bridge you can walk down the ramp that puts you way North of their usual hang out. They don't even notice you as they are facing South waiting on the gringos pouring out of taxis'.

Tropical is another good spot.

It's been a while since I have been down south so I decided to stay overnight. I arrived on Tuesday and left on Wednesday. It was pretty slow both days I was there.

First, I want to talk about the accomodations. I know some people like the Hacienda de Santiago in the Zona, so I stayed there. The price was reasonable. $37 dollars with a $3 dollar deposit for the key.

The room was very spacious and it included a kichenette. the location couldn't be better with a short block walk to a/b, chicago and the rest of the clubs. It was very clean and the staff was very helpful, including an offer to get a girl for me if I wanted. I declined but at least I knew it was girl friendly.

The problem I had with this hotel is that I'am a light sleeper, and the noise all around kept me up longer than I wanted. I didn't even realize how many planes take off from Tj airport in the middle of the night until I stayed here. I have stayed at the Pueblo Amigo before and I didn't hear any planes then.

The hotel also doesn't have a/c, just a fan. It was warm even at night so I had the windows open just to get some kind of breeze. With the windows open, the outside noise became even louder. Plus the drunks yelling in the streets didn't help.

I don't want to turn people off to this hotel. Just an objective observation from a light sleeper. I know cj recommended the Pacifico hotel, next time I can stay overnight, I will try there. If I have a girl with me, and not stay on a weekend, I will probably end up at La Masion.

Now for the girl reports. I went first to a/b, and it was pretty slow over there. There were the lookers there, but they looked more like the trophy pucks, so I passed.

Walked over to L/c to see if one of my favorites were there. No luck today. Not many lookers so had a drink and headed over to H/k. Not like a Saturday night but there were a few good looking women. I would say for every 5 big girls, there would be one good looking one. Unfortunately, the good looking ones were with somebody.

I left the hotel around 11:30 and walked up Revolution to the atm to withdraw some money. In Tj, I perfer to have pesos rather than dollars. It seems to last a bit longer.

After the atm, I decided to have lunch at a place I haven't been to in a long time. It's a restaurant that's called La Chuleta. In my opinion, its the best carne asada in Tj. They had renovated the place since I have last been. The tacos were just as good as I remember. They do make their own tortillas there. Why I haven't been there in such a long time? It is a bit far from the Zona. If anyone wants to know how to get there, drop me an pm.

'With a full stomach, I head back to La zona. I actually go into the sports book in the alley and spend about an hour there. After all was said and done, I made about $2.00 on my horse racing bets. From there, I walk over to h/k. I couldn't believe it, there were at least 20 girls inside and it was only 1:30 pm.. Most were pretty big, but one did catch my eye. Her name is Natasha. But noooo! By the time I got out it was 9:40. In the past I usually leave between 10 and 11 and the lines are almost none existance.
