Here is the latest "Smart Traveller" update about terrorist threats for Aussies living or travelling abroad.

I was told by a local NBI guy that they are watching sites where foreigners of all colours and creeds hang out around Manila.

When I pressed him "what places?" I was told "Places like LA Cafe in Malate and Cafe Havana in Greenbelt". When I asked if they had credible intel he just smiled and did the mouth zipped gesture.

Be wary out there guys.

My friend who is a manager in a business texted me a picture of a fake pictured company ID. This girl had applied for a job and show her a company ID. The ID looked very legit with her picture and laminated. The problem was my friend had previously worked at that company and called her friends there to verify this girl. The answer was negative. They didn't know her at all.

This is not the first time I have heard about legit looking fake company ID's. Anyone can get them produced at the local internet shops.

Plenty people there able to produce all sorts including fake university degrees that neither of us would know is fake.

One girls produced fake invoices in her university letterhead to fools an idiot who thought she was being charged a significant amount of cash each month for school fees LOL Was very authentic looking and he was fooled for sure.

I've pretty much started to avoid going out while in Manila and have started to restrict myself to the hotel and the office. If highly-trained French and German security forces can't do much to prevent the repeated slaughter of innocent people, I doubt that the more poorly trained and equipped security forces here will prove up to the task. So-called security guards have minimal training, cheap weaponry and zero intelligence information, so I doubt they would be of much use nullifying any threats.

As I've pointed out before, I very rarely take taxis, preferring Uber and failing that, the use of hotel cars. I never take what passes for mass transport here and would encourage others to adopt the same stance. This is particularly important for short-term first or second time tourists who don't know the country and know even less about the cities they're visiting.

Greetings folks,

With my impending trip to Manila and Cebu in a few weeks coming up, I set up an account with a 1 month subscription. I have now been approached by several cuties who have offered to provide GFE. Sending through pictures and making plans for me on what we could do when we are not burning the calories.

But the issue I have is these girls now are providing reasons of financial crisis. E. g rent, medicines for mom, medicines for kids, electricity bills, basic needs costs. Etc. School fees. The list goes on,.

I have replied to all of them that I will refrain from sending money unless I meet.

Maybe on hindsight I should not have created the account so early on the game.

But now, my list is thinning out as the girls are a bit miffed why I can't send money now.

FYI. I have been burned before, when I sent through some money to a girl who was planning to visit Dubai. But she never came. So now I have made up my mind, I will not pay up before I see.

Has anyone else faced similar issues. ?

I'd guess most all of us board regulars would say your instincts are right: never send money before spending time with a girl. The ones you mentioned who are dropping off your list for not sending are not worth your time. I make it clear up front that any remuneration comes *after* we spend time together.

Also, if you think the money requests are often now, wait until you spend time with a pinay. You will find the money requests after you leave also never stop.

An absolute categorical rule for me is NEVER EVER send money in advance whether by LBC, XOOM, WU or any other means, whether I have met her before or not.

I know some guys regularly send money to girls that they already met but this money should be treated like casino gambling money, and restricted to what you can afford to lose.

I have been so burned in the past. For a long time after the burn, I too adopted the NEVER EVER. But later I have sent some times thru WU to help support my regulars. Rarely has there been a hiccup on the girl's end later. For all new or nearly new, NEVER send, and I also never pre-cover transport if a girl wants to travel to see me. My policy is to reimburse transport (round-trip + a bit extra) immediately upon meeting a new girl. That way, if she does not like me (or vice versa), she never needs to be in my hotel, and can go directly home. Another thought: If you do send, decide in advance on a monetary amount that you can easily afford to lose. $10? $50? $500? Send only that amount. If you get burned, there's no loss of sleep.

For all gents new to any country: The NEVER-IN-ADVANCE rule should apply under all circumstances.

Statistically you should get plenty of satisfaction, just don't get set on a particular satisfiers. They'll be no less money hungry when in person, but you have more options and they know it.
