But there have always been similar scams, even before the internet. In some countries, most couples now meet via the internet, so it is logical that scammers are there as well.

I've heard of punters who have met the love of their life in a brothel, and lived happily ever after. So it does happen.

Just because money is involved doesn't mean that there is dishonesty involved. The girls are poorer than you, at least in most cases, which is why you are paying and they are working. So even in a genuine romance, she might not be able to pay her own travel etc.

I was very probably scammed once, but it was less than 100 Euros, allegedly for a visa application. I had suspected this, but decided to give it a chance. When the girl soon after sent email much less frequently and said that she was ill, then I broke off contact. Maybe it was true, but I doubt it. Why didn't she play me for more? Probably easy to get EUR 100 each off of 100 men, than 10,000 off of one. Also, no-one is going to take action if EUR 100 were lost, but might if EUR 10,000 were lost. Anyone who can pay that kind of money can afford to hire a hit man.

On the other hand, I've been happily married (figure like Kim Kardashian, only more so; swallows; 10 years younger than I; intellectually my equal) for almost 20 years to an Eastern European woman. At the beginning, I did send her money, but she really did buy a plane ticket and visit me.

If you meet a girl in a brothel, and are willing and able to spend a lot of money on her, if she is really interested in you she would stop working and take up with you. Of course, you might not want that. However, you can call her bluff. Instead of giving her money, suggest a holiday together.

I know of one case in a Swiss club where a local punter lost his head over a girl, one who'd enjoyed a good reputation as a service provider in German FKKs for several years. He got himself tattooed with her names. She retired and he provided a home 'loan'.

Several months later he was out of pocket to the tune of 6 figures and stuck with a lof of unwanted ink.

While yes, the relationship may have been "real" in Germany, it was not her "reality" when she went back home to Romania. Many of these girls have situations that they will not tell you about which could cause them to do morally questionable things. In my case, there was the boy, a baby at home, and an estranged mother. She later claimed to be pregnant with my baby even though the timing of the period / menstruation did not fit the story. In the end, the situation at home manifested itself and the many lies began to unravel.

So for Ender and his friend, I emphasize that even a working girl, l who may authentically like you, may have situations at home that put them in bad spots. Combine that with the fact that they see people do so many questionable things on a daily basis, that undoubtedly influences their decision making. If you fall into the trap of thinking that these girls will make decisions like you or I, or even a "normal" girl, you will be making decisions based on incorrect assumptions.

Every medical student in RO has their sight set on western Europe as soon as they graduate. RO doctors take gifts. It is considered acceptable, so everybody bribes unless they want to stay on perpetual wait list:

The article states Ro doctors make less than avg salary? That would be a reason to look for higher pastures, and with decrease in healthcare professionals with such a salarly no wonder bribery goes on especially something of a necessity as healthcare.

I guess bribery is legalized as the government cannot fund them enough. But still, professionals will be seeking the better pay given there is such a high disparity in compensation between countries(another EU outcome situation).

The article states German accepting Ro doctors due to demand and in the EU, workers will freely move to where the pay meets their expectations.

Last time I heard Greece was in similar predicament due to low government funds. What happens when gov funds are dry and not privatised.

I will add that normal relationships, even with poor girls, they generally don't steal money or ask for money under false pretenses. I make it a point to state this in order to differentiate the mentality of a normal girl who is poor with a working girl. The working girl always has her mind on money while a normal girl may not. With the latter, you just have to worry about normal crazy. With working girls, you should literally sleep with one eye open. Some are not above taking your credit card and sending money to someone via Western Union.

If it happened to me after hundreds of hours spent outside the club without payment. I don't think anyone should feel safe for at least as long as the working girl remains a working girl.

And this is without factoring in the bribes required by doctors.

Unfortunately the Romanian electorate has recently given a landslide victory to the pro corruption party, in return for electoral bribes. Don't expect the girls to be shining examples of pure morality when their country is not.

Anything I give them is a charity with absolutely no expectation for a return. No romance, no relationship, nothing. Not even a tax deduction. The money given is money lost. Then I would never feel scammed. My buddy is expecting a trusting relationship or a lasting friendship if not a serious romance. Shame on him if he gets nothing in return for a few thousand euros he gave the girl and feel scammed. As long as he does not get drugged and a kidney taken out, he should be content with nothing from her but a smile.

Romania is fine to visit. It's not Darien Gap. Don't walk around areas like Ferentari at night, don't flash with a lot of money and don't do drugs. So what I am saying is use common sense. Lovely country with lovely girls.

I've personally visited quite a number of cities in Romania, all positive experiences. I found everyone to be quite friendly. Food is cheap there, even at nice restaurants. I was surprised at how low my food bills were, even when ordering lots of food.

After flying into Bucharest, I recommend driving out to Constanta, by the Black Sea. The neighboring resort town, Mamaia, is worth a visit if beach vacations are your thing. Another good option I would recommend is a visit to the mountains, especially in the winter. For example, from Bucharest, it is an easy drive to Brasov, where you can visit Dracula's castle (that is, the Bran castle, among other castles). Also good for snow skiing or snowboarding if that is your thing. The saunas there are also nice (at least the ones outside the city; the one in the center of the city can be full of kids, which can be annoying). And no, I am not talking about sauna clubs like in NRW, just regular saunas with nice swimming pools and regular massage (sorry, not the naughty kind). Anyways, lots to see and do there. In Bucharest, I recommend visiting the old town, especially in the evening -- so many nicely dressed young ladies bustling about!

Getting around Romania is easy. I would recommend renting a car for convenience, although just be aware that renting a car is unusually expensive in Romania (when factoring in the car rental insurance that all guidebooks recommend taking when in Romania for various reasons).

Of course, visiting Romania is even nicer if you take one of your little Romanian sweethearts with you as a local guide, highly recommended!
