Err I have to side with Taz on this one.

As you said "Steven" is not doing his site for free / out of pure kindness for the community as we all do when we share info for free here.

He decided to earn money from it and is publishing content on a freemium / premium basis and pimping girls offering them visibility and a hotline system.
As such it seems totally reasonable for his customers to review / report their experience with his service.
Thats what this forum is for. People review girls, they review other services / stores, why should Shanghai Guide be exempted from these reviews?

Taz's intervention is not purely negative, he voiced his experience in a rather fair way.
If the neutrality of the review system on SNG is indeed being played with by Steeven, censoring / hiding several fair negative reviews by customers, I feel Taz is totally right to voice his experience with the site and warn potentiel users to take it into account.

Its not the first time there have been questions about SNG website. He started his site by mostly copying info which had been published for free by other mongers here, on sammy singapore board, and other places several of us take part in. Several of the advertised girls when he started were also contacts which had been published for free on these boards. So it did raise some tensions when these infos started entering a freemium / premium business for him and same goes when some girls rates became inflated as he put them on his site.

That being said I believe his website offers a great complementary service to the boards as info gets scrolled down / hidden over hundreds of pages and a blog gives a better overall view of the info. Moreover he improved the content over time with info from the chinese boards too and from his own scouting. As such its a great tool for people who don't speak chinese and only spend a few days / hours in Shanghai and don't want to waste time. And even for more permanent people in Shanghai it can be complementary to our scooting / recovering info faster / finding a couple new places without hassle.

So yes his business can both be praised for the good it brings just like it can be criticized for less positive things. Just like any business we review here on a daily basis, with different point of view / experiences from different mongers.

I would like to clarify two points:

1) I was not complaining, criticizing nor passing judgment. I was merely informing. Which is a fundamental purpose of this board.

2) I believe sng and ISG to be complimentary resources, not competitive.

It seems as though there is a fine line and clearly history I am not aware of. I will therefore make this my final comment on the subject: all website owners clearly have the right to run their sites how they see fit. It is up to informed customers to decide what resources to use.

I think he takes feedback and makes changes. He spends an enormous amount of time providing a highly valuable service to those of us who can't speak and read Chinese.

There are a number of things on his site that would like him to differently. I have made some of these suggestions directly to him. But in general unless I was his business partner or thought I could a better job, the best thing I can think to say is Thank you for the information you provide. It is useful and valuable to me.

The purpose of this forum is to share information that is good, bad and nuanced about mongering in Shanghai. If a poster shares that SNG doctors its reviews and knowingly posts photos of a girl who is different from that advertised, that is useful information.

It does not mean SNG does not provide an excellent and somewhat unique service.

No reason to cast the issue in extreme black / white terms.

I would not completely say its having no value. I found some reasonable contacts there, but what I also do not share is that critical reviews shall be supressed: If they go through an internal reality check. Similar to good hotel search sites like "holiday check"- ok. But not let any critical remarks be posted is not acceptable. I had last month a girl with poor hygiene and only brilliant comments. Another one I fancied to meet but she had some very negative reviews in another website * next to good reviews too. So I can make my own rating if I want to run the risk to see her, which I did not in her case.

That website * more often reports reviews from SNG girls now under "country China" and there you can get a more realistic rating.

But my best experiences for Shanghai and Beijing as of yet I found here in this Forum from recommendations via PM. For example from you BBB for Beijing. Thank you again publicly BBB!

How about we get back to discussion of the sweet ladies and locations?

I only get to come to Shanghai a couple times a year and like to keep informed about the "weather" by reading the field reports on ISG. It has been troubling to hear about the recent closures in Jing An, Gubei and Minhang. That's my normal area. I am not a sauna guy, prefer places like the Buddha place and Shaanxi Lu (both closed I read).

I look forward to reading some updates to prepare me for my next visit in July. I will be sure to file some reports if I find some gems.

Jing'an is clamped down, but Gubei and Minhang are opening back up. Yes, Buddha, Ming and Shaanxi Lu are closed but go north for about 2 km and you'll find Lizhuang Spa. Check out my post #10228. Corner of Changshou Lu and Jiangning Lu. Shop is on the north side of Changshou Lu so it's in the Putuo district.

In Gubei, walk along Huangjinchengdao or Ronghuadongdao (south of Carrefour) towards Gubei Lu. You'll find no less than 8 MP's bunched up together in a courtyard. They cater to the Japanese clientele.

Shaanxi Rd #250, next to the police station, is still open. It has gone way downhill since #3 and #18 left. Never was too clean and the protectors at the door not so friendly. If she is still there #5 has beautiful breasts and a decent handjob.
