Feliz nuevo ano, everybody. I'm planning my first trip to the "marvelous city" in April, and I hope to engage with veterans of the Rio scene to find out some things. The information here is wonderful, and my thanks to everyone for sharing all their knowledge. I also found some sociologists, Ana Silva and Thaddeus Blanchette, who have written very good reports about the sex scene in Brazil. What I wanted to ask is, I know that things have changed in Rio over the last couple of years, and I was wondering if you could recommend 5 or 6 cool monger places for a first time visitor to the city. Thank you in advance. Muito obrigada.
Greetings first-timer. Here's an idea: RTFF!
What's the deal with "Muito obrigada"? Are you a chick or something?
Yeh, I'm being a dick right now. Feeling randy. Almost time to hit the Brazilian bordellos.
Eh, sorry but I don't think it is anyone's responsibility to convince you of anything. Either go or don't, makes no difference to me. I hit the ground in Rio in a few days and will be soaking up the rays & hooking up with as many hot 'and sexy little Brasileiras that I can. One less monger on the beach means nothing.
BTW. The beaches WILL BE PACKED, it's summertime and a great time to be in Rio. I personally prefer Recreio, Praia the Tijuaca & Ubatuba over Copa but I know some locals who live there so I'm there at times in the afternoon.
If you look for apartments or hotels on the internet they will quote high prices. If you look to stay in Copacabana or Ipanema then you will pay high prices. If you are willing to stay in Gloria, Catete, Lapa or Centro you can just catch a cab into town and walk around until you find a decent place. You can easily find a place for less than R$150 (73 bucks) and many places are much cheaper. However, you will be far from Copacabana & Ipanema and it's not the best area for a tourist who has never been to Brazil and can't speak Portuguese. Then again you'll be closer to the casas and Termas in Centro and nothing is too hard if you are the adventurous type.
Sometimes you just have to say "fuck it", hop on a plane and figure things out when you get there. If you don't like Brazil then just don't go back. Or you could just do the same old thing as usual. 'Tis up to youl.
- DSK
I went to Rio in Sept 2012. I got a 2 bedroom / 2bathroom with internet and cable tv for $150 a night. One block from copa beach. So thats $75 per person. I think thats pretty good.
I believe he meant that women say obrigada, men say obrigado.
Exactly. Might want to keep that in mind because if you are a guy in Brazil and you're running around saying "obrigada" people are going to look at you funny.
Many things in Rio are possible, but to fuck a very hot chick without paying anything (lunch, drinks, presents etc.) IMPOSSIBLE. I don't care how do you look like, you can be a Brad Pitt, but they still want some shit.
Come on dude. Lunch in Rio can be bought for $4. Drink: agua de coco what 2 reais. Sure I have bought those things for women. But you are off your rocker or obviously don't have much experience with regular women if you truely believe what you said. I have fucked plenty of hot women without giving presents and shit. But spliting hairs over buying someone lunch? Gee have some tact and learn the art of courtship. It is not always about money, but you should be willing to put some effort into getting to know a woman. Otherwise stick to hookers or seek out one night stands at a club or something. And this comes from one of the biggest players in the game.
I believe he meant that women say obrigada, men say obrigado.
Doesn't it depend on who you're thanking? If you're talking to a woman, don't you say obrigada? For man, obrigado?

I almost flipped out when I heard how it expensive it was to buy a simple agua de coco from the beach.
Doesn't it depend on who you're thanking? If you're talking to a woman, don't you say obrigada? For man, obrigado?
Nope. Not in this case. The man says obrigado and the woman says obrigada. I think you may be thinking about where the ending of the adjective changes depending on which gender (and number) is the subject or depending on which gender you are speaking to.
He is very tired. Ele esta muito cansado. But,
She is very tired. Ela esta muito cansada.
They are very tired. (When there is least one male in the group) Eles estao muito cansados.
They are very tired. (When all females are in the group) Elas estao muito cansadas.
Are you very tired? (speaking to a male) Voce esta muito cansado?
Are you very tired? (speaking to a female) Voce esta muito cansada?
Are you very tired? (speaking to a group where there is at least one male) Voces estao muito cansados?
Are you very tired? (speaking to a group of all females) Voces estao muito cansadas?
In the case of giving thanks, the subject is the one expressing the gratitude so the gender ending goes to that person.
Male says: I am thankful. Obrigado, because he is the actual subject or the one who is giving the thanks.
Female says: I am thankful. Obrigada, because she is the actual subject or the one who is giving the thanks.

You explained it quite well. I'm starting to get hang of it. A bit confusing for a novice.

Agua de coco is 5R?
That is wonderful news. I hope everything continues to sky rocket in terms of prices. So far apartment rentals, food, termas, pu*why, just everything is significantly more expensive. The faster it continues to rise, the sooner it will get to a point where it will all blow up (for example, inflation). The bigger they are, the harder they fall. I don't when, but at some point there will be a huge crash and things will be in the tourists favor again. Like it was years ago. Up's and downs. Thats life! That aside, I am counting on brasil's history of huge corruption to as some point contribute to their economic downfall. Its in their DNA if you have followed their history. Maybe I am wrong, but I have a hunch that I will be right about my view of the future.
I recently was in both Milan and Rio and believe me there is no comparison. Rio has some strikingly beautiful women. Milan, not so much.
I've been to 5 of them, the most beautiful women in Stockholm (lot of sexy, tall, attractive) The most ugly in Rio (plenty of ugly cellulite women with fake boobs, ass and hair)
