Phuket Reports

Tropica Bungalow hotel is just south of Bangla Road. (As you walk south from the beach end of Bangla, you pass a seafood restaurant, then the Tropica restaurant, then the driveway to the hotel itself, which is set back from the road.) There are many isolated bungalows and one large building with 13 rooms on each of 2 floors. I had a single in the large building (I think the bungalows are for more people) for $19US per night, including a large breakfast buffet.

The hotel is girl friendly. The rules in the room just tell you to have her leave ID at the desk. They even gave me 2 breakfast vouchers for each day.

The room had a large bed, TV with not many channels but it did have HBO, a room safe (very important consideration for me) and a powerful air conditioner. I had a 2nd floor balcony which would have overlooked the pool except there was a tropical jungle, so I could barely see it. Also, through the trees I could barely see the top of one of the Bangla Road clubs. Not very noisy for being so close. I could occasionally hear a faint drum beat at night, and once a big cheer from all the Aussies watching sports in the bars, but nothing annoying.

The large bathroom is not air conditioned--slits at the top of the wall are open to the outside. So you just have to leave the bathroom door closed.

The girls at the reception desk spoke english well and were helpful with advice. I would recommend this hotel anyway, but at the very low price I think it's a real bargain.

This is written by a rookie to maybe help out other new guys. Probably doesn’t have much of interest for the experienced.

Bangla Road is in the center of the Patong Beach area. The beach runs N/S and Bangla runs E/W. The West end starts at the road along the beach and the East end is at the next major N/S road. In the evenings it is a pedestrian mall, closed to traffic. There are lots of restaurants and (real) bars, souvenier stands and even a small department store with a grocery store underneath it. On the east end of the street is a Thai Boxing arena. But extending north from Bangla road are alleys or areas with many open air bars packed next to one another. Those are kind of the point of Bangla Road.

These areas each have one loud shared music system. There are maybe 20 to 50 small bars in each area, with 10 to 20 seats at each one. Starting around 9:00 or so at night you’ll find 3 to 10 girls sittng at each bar. Some will have a girl or two dancing on the bar. There are also some indoor go-go bars and a few large clubs. Guys out on the streets are tying to get you to go to the go-go bars, but it doesn’t look like the girls in them are any different than the ones outside. There are also some free-lance girls out on Bangla road. Also, some ladyboys in outrageous outfits posing for pictures. I’m not sure why.

With so much competition, prices are reasonable. My orange juice was 50B. Many bars have girls holding up price lists of drinks. No fear of being ripped off like in Patpong in Bangkok. Since they’re open air and packed together, you can just wander around them and check out hundreds of girls before choosing a spot to hang out. Often the girls will grab you as you walk by (“Hello. Welcome. Where you go? Buy a beer, etc.”). If you find one you like, she’s probably available.

I checked out all the open air bars off Bangla Road on a Sunday night. Most of them looked pretty dead. The girls would grab me as I walked by and ask me to stay, but they weren’t that hot. The exception was a place called Sharkey’s. Right on Bangla, toward the Eastern end of the road, by the Tiger club, I think. No girls approach you. They’re wearing schoolgirl outfits with “Sharky’s” stitched above the shirt pocket. Most of them are dancing. There are lots of customers. The Sharkey’s girls are a cut above the other ones. Probably the 3 or 4 best looking babes I saw that night were all here.

A girl with a nice rack in a black T-shirt showed me to a seat and took my drink order. (I figured she was just a waitress, but more on that later.) The hottest girl I’d seen in Phuket was one of half a dozen dancing on the bar. I smiled at her and she smiled back, but when she came down she went straight to another guy. Not long after, he paid a 500B bar fine and they left.

The 2nd hottest girl was putting on a good show on the bar, teasing guys and having fun. I just hung out for a half an hour or so until she came down and continued dancing among the customers. Then I offered to buy her a drink. Lady drinks are 150B. She told me they were cola and Thai whiskey. After a few minutes she was dancing again. She told me if she sits down for more than 2 or 3 minutes the boss yells at her. She went back up on the bar and I moved to a bar seat where she danced for me. As I continued to buy her drinks, she let me suck on her nipples, stick my hand up her dress and, a few times, put an ice cube in her mouth and kissed me until it melted. A sign says something like “1000B ring the bell everybody gets drinks.” But I never saw anyone besides the boss lady ring it and I never saw anyone pay her 1000B to do so. I think her job was to keep the girls dancing and drinking and keep the party atmosphere going.

A few times my girl had arguments in Thai with the “waitress” mentioned above. Once, the “waitress” offered to go with me as a replacement. It turned out that 2 guys had offered to take my girl with them and that was the argument. My girl wanted to leave with me. So I paid the bar fine and “waitress” girl had to go calm down the other guys. I guess she was more than a waitress.

My girl (sorry I don’t remember her name--if you look for her, she’s hot, long hair, small boobs, good English, most energetic dancer and perfect teeth) said she didn’t want money, she wanted me to give her a new phone. That turned out to be around 9000B, so I declined and said I’d just pay. She asked for 3000B, which is what the 2 guys together were going to pay. She said other girls get 1000 or 1500 but she wanted 3000. And you know what? I think she was worth it. She was pretty, enthusiastic, slutty, friendly, drunk and spoke very good English. I figured this was my only time here, so I might as well take the best and never think about what might have been. Besides, 3000B is probably less than I’d have spent in a US club for the lap dances and other action she already gave me.

By this time it was about 2 AM and most other bars had folded up, but Sharkey’s was still going. She changed clothes and we walked to my hotel room (Tropica Bulgalows--see my description nearby on this list). Before I had the room door closed she had her dress off. I arrived in Phuket Town last Sunday, Sep 17, at 1: 00 AM from an air-con minivan ride from Hat Yai which left at 6: 00 PM the previous day. If you ever arrive an Phuket Town, make sure you arrive early because it was very difficult getting a taxi. I ended up walking up to these two girls coming out of a bar and asking if they could help me call a taxi. After a unsuccessful phone calls, then flagged down a moto and fortunately, he said he knew of a taxi who would take us. As an added benefit, the girls helped me negotiate a 400 be fare which was cheap considering the situation I was in. I offered the buy the girls a drink for the assistance, but that never materialized because they had given me their wrong mobile number. Probably intentionally.

So after checking in to the Deevana, a nice mid-range hotel about a 10 minute walk from Bangla Rd and Patong Beach, I needed to get a drink and headed down to Bangla Rd. A moto ride down there from Deevana cost 20 be so don't ask the driver. When you get off the moto, just hand over the 20 be, say "khawp khun khrap" or "thank you" and walk away. If the driver ask for more, just say that's what you've always paid.

Yeah, Sharkey's seems to be the most happening bar out of all the bars I walked by on multiple occasions. It's not difficult to see why they're the most happening place. They've got a great location right at the front, they've got a lot of girls working the bar, their girls are a cut above the other bars and they do some crazy ass shit to the customers. I guess they all learn it from the Ms. Big Boss, the proprietor of the place and the craziest one of them all. She's always dressed in something all too revealing and there wasn't a night I was there when she didn't have her legs high in the air or her titties exposed or used as a drinking fountain or a pacifier for all those grown men. Me included:). If you ever goto Sharkey's, you'll know who the she is.

I fell for one girl at Sharkey's I saw from my first night at the Tiger Entertainment Complex. Her name is Oiy and she has long straight blond hair, small eyes, a sharp face and dances like a real ****. Yes, I love sluts, espeically the really bitchy looking ones:). I didn't do anything the first night because I was sitting at another bar close to Sharkey's but I returned the second night and bar fined her. As you'll soon find out, she's a pretty popular girl, so if you're interested in her, get there early. The girls are Sharkey's start work at 9: 00 PM, but the music and the dancing at the TEC don't get going until 10: 00 PM.

The bar fine is 500 be and I negotiated 2000 be for LT with her. We took a moto back to the Deevana and I gave the moto 40 be for two people. I don't know if you have to double the fare when there are two people on the moto, but what the heck, I was feeling generous. When we got to the hotel, the security guard escorted Oiy to the stairs to the rooms while I went to get my keys from the front desk. When I met up with my girl and the guard, I handed the guard a 20 be tip, but he wanted me to give him 300 be for taking the girl up and I said no. I told him I had booked a double and that I didn't need to give him anything extra and he could confirm that with the front desk if he wished.

Even though she's kind of lazy in bed (she didn't do BJ, but I didn't ask cuz it's BJs are just OK for me), I had a wonderful night with her. She and I especially liked that DATY she received. I must have been at it for over half an hour before I even got down to the real business. We headed back into Patong Beach and we were originally going to have some fun in my room, but my watch said 8: 00 PM and I was suppose to meet up with a friend for dinner so I said I would just see her tonight. But unfortunately, I had my watch on the incorrect time-zone setting and it was really only 7: 00 PM! Oh well.

I arrived at Sharkey's at 10: 15 PM that night and she was already bar fined by the same guy. Oh well. To make the rest of the story short, I didn't see her again until the morning I left Phuket. She came over at 8: 00 AM and we had a little fun before I left. I was heading to Bangkok next and she said she wanted to visit me there. She asked for me to pay for her 2700 be ticket and I said OK. I was beginning to wonder if I was being played, so I told her I only had 4000 be on me that morning and asked her to pay for her own ticket first and that I would pay her back when she got to Bangkok, but she didn't liked that idea. I finally gave her 1000 be, so if I was being played, that would have covered that ST I had with her that morning, and then she got upset. I told her to forget about coming to Bangkok unless she really wanted to. I gave her my hotel info and told her to give me a call if she decided to come. I also explained how I wasn't rich like her current sugar daddy so if she was expecting that from me, she wasn't going to get it, but if she wanted to have a good time hanging out in Bangkok, I could provide that.

So, I guess I'll see if she shows up in Bangkok this Sunday or not. But I'm not holding my breath. *Sigh* it's way too easy to develop emotions for these Thai girls.

Like I said, dont cancel the flight as CM is a great sightseeing place (dont forget to go see Wat Suthep in the mountains).--if you find a nice babe while there then thats an added bonus.

From this experience, I think the Thai people are some of the nicest people in the world. Sure you're going to find some scumbags, but you're going to find these types everywhere. Like Phantomtiger said, never loose your cool, and especially don't go looking for fights, drunk or not, and everything will be ok.

It's on Th Rat Uthit, further south and a 5 minute walk from Bangla Road. The fish bowl has three sections, normal fishies cost 2200 B, pretty ones cost 2500 B and the overfed ones cost 1800 B. More girls arrive after 6:00 PM so if you like choices, plan to arrive after that.

I picked a pretty one from Chiang Mai. Sorry, I forgot her name and number, but she's got a really great smile that beams, "pick me!" The soapy massage was actually pretty good if you like having a naked girl slip and slide all over you. But, Just a word of caution for any newbies in Phuket (or elsewhere) that dont know how this works.
Theres often a good reason why nobody but a drunk would even ring the bell. In many bars (cant remember if Sharky is one of those) ringing the bell means you are buying a round of drinks for EVERYONE at the bar (all mongers, bargirls, the boss, etc) and it is whatever they want to drink, so if the bar is packed, ringing the bell could easily cost you several thousand bahts.
I've done this once (I was not drunk), but only because the bar was fairly empty--late at nite (total 5 people at the bar--including the BGs)and I was in a good mood, so rather than ask what everyone wanted to drink ,easier to just ring the bell.

I also liked Deevana Patong if you want a reasonably upscale place that's guest friendly and not priced exhorbitantly. I'd call it a legit 3-3.5 star place, with decent rooms, nice grounds and several very nice swimming pools and a good spa. I wish it were closer to Bangla Road and the beach (It's a 3 block walk to the ocean - but that's why it was undamaged by the Tsunami).

A standard room should be around $30-35, and a deluxe room $40-50 including tax and service.

I never did get my companionship on Bangla Rd, as there was a street with about 4-5 beer bars leading right up to the Deevana Patong's entrance, and I met all of my new friends there. During daytime, nobody ever asked about the ladies who accompanied me back to my room. At night, the guard at the front entry took their ID and my room number, but I never was charged any joiner fee. I believe I booked a double, but that cost the same as a single on PrecisionReservations, which is where I booked the hotel.

My only gripe is that the Baht buses become MUCH more expensive at night than during the daytime when 20-30 Baht will cover it, at night it's more like 100-200.

I was hit upon for airfare at least 5 times in the last 2 months by girls from matchmaking websites, like thailandfriends.com. Always tell them there is no way you can send money, and besides 'no stupid ferang sucker'. One especially bold one actually showed up and asked for 7500 BHB 'for air ticket'. I strung her along for 3 days until I could verify that she had actually arrived by bus, at only 1000 THB for the fare! I paid her that and she disappeared 10 min later. Oh well: "Deceit thy name is women!" Let us know it the TG actuall shows up in BKK.

Baht buses are pickup trucks with bench seats in the back which act as ride-share taxis. They run up and down the beach road and the next road up from the beach. There are plenty of them in Patong - I'm not sure if they cover any of the other areas in Phuket.
