Does anyone know if there's an online "white pages" directory for the DR, Santo Somingo in particular? I'd like to try to associate some names with phone numbers, and phone numbers with names.

Greatly appreciate any help or ideas.

For instance you had a $1000, Would you change it for whatever 31 or 32 pesos? At one of the guys or at the beach? or USE your CITIBANK debit card and take out the money @ 33 pesos via an ATM considering your bank fees? Regards!

I always use my debit card, but my UK bank does not charge for cash withdrawals (of course take the usual steps to make sure the machine is not rigged, get and keep the receipts, check your account afterwards for extra/dodgy withdrawals).

For cash exchange always go to someone who has at least a shop or small kiosk or something (so in case of problem you can go back to him and he is half descent). Changing in the street is quite risky - you might get a bunch of fake notes ! Shop around I found EVERY day someone different has the best rate !?

Also if taking large amount (from ATM or exchange) don't hang around the street or clubs, go straight to hotel and put it in the safe.

Your best bet is finding those guys yelling CHANGE!!! all day on the main strip in Sosua. Last time I was there they hung out in front of PJ's which going towards the beach. They always give you the best rate, plus you are going to pay a premium from taking your money out of a ATM in DR. You pay the bank enough at home dont give them the money abroad too.

Thanks UZIN, been the the DR many times since 2002, but Im pretty familiar with the safety and counterfeit note situation, Just wanted to know if anybody had the citibank debit and how much they charge in fees in comparason with getting a lesser rate by the street vendors. Cheers though!

Citibank will charge you anywhere from $3 to $5 calling it a "Foreign Fee", the rate currently is 33 to 1. Cambios will also give you 33 to 1 or people can point you to the best exchange houses. I was never charged more, even with withdrawls of RD10,000.

Whay are you staying at an all-inclusive if you are traveling alone?

If you are going by yourself in Dr. go to Puerto Plata . Dont book an all incl. because you will end up getting an other room for play !

In POP if you are only interested in sexual activities go to Sosua . There are hotels like Europa and other where you can bring all the girls you want during your stay . As long as they have VALID ID (CEDULA) .

If you want to be on a nice beach go to Cabarete .

Dont go to an all. incl.
