I have been to Petersburg before and had quite fun with the private apartements/studios.
I had a Taxidriver with me, but it is really dark and feels unsafe when you walk into some of the buildings.
What do you think?
What private place is the best these days?

I have a two night visit to SPB in mid April and was looking for help in finding a good agency that could provide outcall for 2 hours in the 200-300 Euro range. In April I will be attending a conference that is being held at the Pribaltiyskaya Hotel (located on the Western end of Vasilyevsky Island).
I have never been to St. Pitr, but from what I can tell, this hotel is not near anything of interest to mongers. Even assuming that I find an apartment downtown, it looks like a complicated trek out to this hotel (15 min walk from subway).
My only other thought is that maybe there would be opportunities to monger "off the beaten path" as it were - outside of the main clubs of the city center. However, given that I am a neophyte in this city, and don't speak Russian, I cannot help but think I would be better off staying "on the beaten path".
Of course, I can make internet dates and get the girls to meet me near the hotel, if there is any sort of entertainment district nearby...
Can anybody advise me differently?

Are you staying in the hotel?
AFAIK there are pros IN the hotel, at the bars. Other than that you can try salons located on the island.
The hotel is indeed not near anything of interest, although there once was a decent disco named "Ostrov" on V.I.... not sure if it still exists.
At night, the taxi trip to the center is not more than 10-15 minutes. In terms of entertainment, St.Pete is a village.

Sure I can stay at the hotel, but am concerned that then I would be confined to lobby girls - who often are not great from a price/quality criteria.
Equally, I can shun the hotel and find an apartment downtown, to be closer to the action, but still have to get to my meetings at the hotel, during rush hour.
On the other hand, if the prices are lower out of the centre, maybe I am better off just with hotel fare, than spending a lot of time and money in the hotter downtown market? Decisions, decisions...

I've walked from the metro to the hotel, it's about 20 minutes and depending on the wind and weather, can be pretty brutal. The hotel interior is surprisingly nice, although I have never stayed there and cannot comment on the rooms or the quality of the lobby girls.
You can always take a taxi from the metro to the hotel, won't be more than 150 rubles... and that is already "bandit" price.
AFAIK there is no entertainment area on the island... of course there are restaurants, some bars and casinos etc., but nothing I'd really recommend.
SP is a village, you can never venture 500m from Nevsky and get everything you want. Personally I wouldn't stay on the island unless I had to. However if your mobility will be severely limited by your work, the convenience of lobby girls might be OK.
I stayed there a year ago last October.
Plenty of girls hanging out in the lobby bar - but their performance leaves something to be desired. I seem to recall paying about $150 for a few hours and not being very impressed. Frankly I would not bother with these girls.
Take the taxi to the metro.
I think there are a few salons on the Island - BE AWARE OF THE BRIDGE CLOSURES. Every night they close the bridges for several hours and if you are caught on the wrong side it can be very inconvenient.
