Heading for Jakarta in a couple of weeks. Please provide latest info on VOA. How much? Currency? Cash?
Thanks!
US$25 for 4 weeks. Has to be cash from memory, didn't see any card facilities. Try to have exact change, don't make the mistake I did of handing over $100 and expecting US$ change, or the first screwing for the visit will be via the FX rate when they hand your change back in rupiah! Other currencies accepted, at very poor FX rates, can't remember the list, sorry.

Thanks!
Hi Menteng, welcome back home. The VOA charges are USD 25 and you will get a 30 days Visa. In case you want to extend it, you could visit the nearest immigration office and get it extended for another 30 days. Am not sure of the charges, but I believe it must be less than 50 bucks. When are you landing in Jakarta and for how many days. Am leaving for Africa early next week. As of now return is open. Hope you will be around till am back, so that we could catch up for a beer.
It's nice to see one of the mates excited about home coming. Lots have changed after you left. Tanamour and JJ's, I believe have closed down. Not sure whether it closed before you left or after you left Jakarta. But some exciting options have opened up and am sure you will have a memorable trip.
Cheers mate.
Have fun.

Thanks!
Hi, yes, in addition. Payable in cash, USD. Other major currencies like the Euro are also accepted, but not all currencies. Like the Malaysian Ringgit. It's a bit funny. At Terminal 3, the one that is used by AirAsia, MYR is not accepted there.
Also for VOA, the passport has to be valid for at least 6 months. They have become quite strict. Nowadays they send travelers back if it is less. The old habit of adding a bit of uang rokok, as to straighten things out, doesn't work anymore and has disappeared all together. They calculate it on the day, precisely.
BTW, the best disco in the world closed it's doors in 2004, cheers.

I'll be much looking forward to it. I'll be back in January, perhaps we can PM then? I just got back from a month in Jakarta, it was great. Jakarta veteran. No, but since the late eighties already, more like a regular visitor of this warm and beautiful city. I hope you'll have fantastic and fun trip.
Thanks for the input, bro!
To Menteng,
They use to offer a 7 day VOA for 10 USD but no more only 30 days for 25 USD now most of the time I only stay a few days, most money changer in Kota ask if I have any RMB because I am Chinese they want RMB over USD or Euro now.

Have fun.
Some general VOA info. You can pay in IDR if you have it on you, and then you can wind up the officer by paying the USD equivalent as posted on the currency exchange rate at the counter. But they are obliged to accept it, and they will argue because they pocket the difference. Can be a bit of fun but only if the exchange rate makes it worth a go.
VOA extensions are quite the norm, just for 1 month extra. Cost is 250, 000 if you do it your self but its really time consuming and can take up to 3 trips to the Immigration, although it varies which office you go to.
Agents typically charge around 600, 000 IDR and take the pain out. But don't leave it until the last minute. In theory 7 working days prior to expiry you need to start the process.
You will need a photocopy of your passport main details page, a copy of the current VOA visa stamp and a copy of your ticket out.
That's about it, enjoy your stay Menteng.
Cooze and Eddie: Thanks for the (detailed) information. Any chance to meet?

For anything else, it seems like it's at the discretion of the officer.
Last trip, I first tried paying with a $50, and they claimed no US change and tried to give me back IDR 230, 000. So then I said that I'd pay in IDR, and they said it was IDR260, 000. Small amount of money, but I could not find one officer willing to budge at either desk. Eventually someone came up who was paying US$25 with exact change, and I just took their money and paid for 2 with my $50.

It depend on the money changer agent some want only new 100 USD with no mark, they will still exhange the bill for a lower rate but if you go to a bank or a larger money changer they are not too picky, all the country that I been to China and Cambodia is the worst they will reject any bill with just a small mark.
