El Dorado is a pain in the ass
Your anger is misdirected. You have a beef with the US government, not the US airlines. The US govt makes the rules for all flights going to the USA.
Although a small problem but one that is one of my favorite pet peeves is that you can buy a drink after you pass security and buy your drink directly across from gate 34 they still take your drink away from you in the jet way before you board. It only happens in Colombia to my knowledge. Part of my diet is to hydrate constantly, giving the fact most airline, Jetblue, Delta all stopped the water bottles and now only give you a small plastic cup of water is a pain in the ass.
Before security yes, its a no no
ATM with 900 k limit is per transaction, just withdraw 900 k remove card & repeat, did it at airport when I landed no problem at all.
Why are you annoyed with the airline when you tried to break the rules bringing a water bottle through?
But AFTER you pass security you can buy water inside, the near the gate and bring it onto the plan with no problem EXCEPT Bogota, it's not just Jetblue but Delta too, see my post below. Save your money and don't buy drinks to take on the plane with you in El Dorado, They have been doing it for my last half dozen trips this year.
You don't need mace. You need Spanish.
Was also thinking about getting some mace, I haven't heard anyone on here talk about whether that's a good idea but apparently it's legal.
Santa Fe is not really that dangerous, though I think there could be some misunderstandings if you don't understand spoken Spanish well. Hire a guide if you don't have confidence in your Spanish language skills.
I think bringing a cheap phone is a good idea, though.
Meeting in Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena
I would like to ask a few questions here before I come to Colombia for 3 weeks in November. This will be my first stay in Colombia. I am coming alone and I don't speak Spanish. Am neither old nor young. I am no stranger to sports.
1. which city should I choose and why? The choices are Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena. Maybe 5 days Bogota, 7 Medellin and 9 Cartagena? Or should I limit myself to just one city?
2. are any of you in one of these cities at this time and would like to meet up so we can visit some places / bars / clubs together? My English is school level, I am from Germany.
3. would you recommend me a wingman, so I don't have to walk alone in the evening / night. And where do I find such guys, how much do they charge?
