I can't get in that forum.

I suppose 4-5 days stay. Where should I start looking for quality hotels in the city? Just swim or snorkel.

The nearest beach hotels are on Mactan island, but that would put you far from the best malls and nightlife. Some of them are very expensive.

If you have a longer trip I'd recommend you enjoy the city life of Cebu City and then consider a beach destination like Moalboal in South Cebu Island, Malapasqua Island in north Cebu Island, or Alona beach on Bohol.

I'm returning to Manila after about a 2.5 year break. I don't monger in Phills, my visit is to my "other" family. My usual routine is hire car from Airport to Cavita, Dasma area and would probably drive with "family" to Laguna and Batangas. My trip for unexplained reasons is very secret to my normal outside world. So my question of safety given the vigilante killings etc going on. Is it of a serious enough concern for normal people unrelated to the drug and crime industry? I gather the risk is a bit more, but then it has always been a risk for me. As expats living here what is your take on safety? Appreciate any and all inputs.

So if you just arrive quietly, mind your own business and look for hide and shelter (joke) I am sure you will be fine. If your second family has anything to do with drugs, I would visit my third family in another country instead.

Appreciate any and all inputs.[/QUOTE]IMHO you will be fine Snow as long as you steer clear of drug dens, people who use drugs etc. I think it is safer than walking the streets in some parts of the USA. I have never felt threatened and I don't go looking for trouble nor do I frequent those areas so I would not worry.

Basically, if you're not involved with drug addicts / pushers you *should* be perfectly safe but as you'll no doubt understand, Manila is never that simple. Certainly in Metro Manila life is as it ever was. I would imagine both the cops / vigilantes are under instruction to avoid targeting tourists, it's just your regular criminals you'll have to worry about.

Recent news indicate a scary incident where a smoking Phil A flight to Japan had to return to Manila. I don't wish anyone bad luck, but I'd be happy if the Duturte exchange rates apply in December during my next visit.

Thanks to all the encouraging replies. Where my 2nd family lives there have been so far no reports of killings and like its mentioned I will be staying clear of those vices. As for the 3rd family in another country, if I win a lottery! LOL.
