The poor dog was brought home as a tiny, tiny puppy in a cardboard box shaking with fear, and I asked my wife what its name would be. She said "Diana, porque es como una princesa". Exactly what enabled her to perceive these royal qualities in this pathetic creature, I don't know, but the name stuck. A few months later she turned out to be more of a puta than a princesa and had minor surgery to correct that issue. So actually she did deserve the name.

You say you pay $450US per month for your apartment in Sosua and appears you only go with inexpensive Haitianas in Sosua. I could understand you staying in Sosua if you really preferred Haitianas, but seeing as you say that you are married to a Dominicana, seems you really prefer Dominicanas, but maybe the Dominicanas on the island are out of your budget (so you justify things by saying Haitianas are better).

You say plenty of good restaurants in Sosua, how do you define plenty and good? Supermarkets, as in more than one, the only supermarket I remember is on the main road next to the Sosua jail (the other stores are more like mini-marts).

Alternatives to Sosewer in the DR; Las Terrenas in Samana has nicer beaches and better restaurants, close to El Catey International Airport. Bayahibe has nicer beaches and good food, is located close to la romana international airport. Bavaro and punta cana has a multitude of rental apartments and condos, nicer beaches, probably better restaurants and better "non-pro" nightlife. Juan Dolio would be another option, close to las americas airport. Cheap Haitian prostitutes, Sosua and Boca Chica win.

A sewage engineer knows how to stay out of the shit, maybe it is something you should learn.

I am a little dismayed at the spitting contest between one set who think Sosua is "foul" and another who think it is not. I just do not think anyone can win that contest. Those do not like Sosua may simply stay away from "Sosua" forum so that should take care of it. Personally I spent a week my first time in the D. R, in Sosua and I certainly liked its small town European cache', second time I spent 2 days and the 3rd time, did not even set foot in Sosua.

2. I know Frannie personally and I certainly think he is a decent and mild mannered person who is willing to help anyone who needs it, based on my first hand experience. I also know that Jaosousa is rather generous with his time as far as helping others is concerned. Let us have our own likes and dislikes without bad-mouthing other / s. Frannie and Charles have great sense of humor and the gift of the gab too, that I personally enjoy immensely.

3. On a final note, the forum is, to me, not about describing "humping". We all know about the pelvic thrusts and the groans and grunts. To express ourselves with our full-faculty. The tongue, the fingers and the brain, makes the narration so much more vivid that the reader can almost have a "been there" experience and that too, across the globe, thankfully with this thing called the web. So, all writing is actually, I think unwittingly, reader-centric. I have no issues with using "f words" when necessary but I do think over-usage does not get me any brownie points with most people. I am not comfortable (not that it matters to others) and without being judgmental can openly state that I form my initial judgment about people by the way they write or speak, more than their clothing. I have seen quite nice 2-bedroom apartments in La Union with 100% tile floors renting for about 6000 pesos per month, which is less than $200. However, that is for a basic apartment without extras. Now add on the following:

1. Excellent lap swimming pool maintained by owner. (I would pay $50 per month for this alone, easily.)

2. All electricity and water included plus emergency generator.

3. Wi Fi. 2 servers included.

4. Cable TV with multiple channels included.

5. 24 hour security with armed guard from 8 pm to 8 am.

6. Maid cleans apartment thoroughly one time per week, clean towels and bed linens included.

7. Maid washes, drys and cleans clothes for small propina.

8. Location in quiet street, but close to restaurants and supermarket.

9. Safe in room.

Now, could those extras be worth an additional $300 per month, that is the question you have to ask yourself, or is it better to source each of them independently?

2. Good means they have fresh food that is locally sourced and prepared hygienically using appropriate cooking techniques, and served in an attractive way.

For example there are half a dozen places in Sosua where you can get excellent pizza, but I also recently had a superb steak Diane. There are a couple of places where you can get wonderful burritos with fresh condiments like salsa, guacamole, sour cream. All kinds of pasta dishes, a couple of excellent German restaurants, French, and a choice of higher grade restaurants like Morua Mai or Bailey's with international style cooking. Also a choice of Dominican food outlets to take away or eat in where you can get soups, rice dishes, chicken, various casserole type dishes, or grilled chicken with yucca or platanos. Also for $5 or less you can get excellent breakfasts including fresh pineapple, mango, papaya, cantaloupe and other fruits, bacon, eggs, potatoes, toast, coffee, etc.

3. I like Las Terrenas, and agree about the other places, but there are not so many of them, and are the sidewalks really any better? Or the power cables? Once I was in San Francisco de Macoris in a Caribbe tours bus and the roof of the bus got tangled in a low hanging power cable and we all had to get out. Fortunately my then novia was available to issue directions to the Carribe tours employees and we were soon on our way again.

4. Regarding your opinions on Haitians, you might want to think about how your comments might be interpreted.
