The only reason you go to Sosua is because it is cheap.
Oh. Come on Jao, you know better. Perhaps Frannie is no longer an explorer as you are (even though, I know he traveled across the world). What's wrong with that? I know he has personal reasons to stay in Sosua but no matter what, it is his personal choice. I have moved away, somewhat like you even though you are in a different league as far as D. R is concerned.
Haitians or Domenicans: It all boils down to personal predilections. Doesn't it? God, I just plain like a woman!
I too think Sosua has excellent restaurants, referring to my long sojourn in Europe as the cooks in Sosua often are native german / italian etc. Besides, is having a large department store or mall the only denominator of a good place? I liked its small town feeling too. As I have grown old, I have come to the conclusion that less is more (which is why the marketers target the younger crowd). I certainly would like to try La Samana / Las Terrenas and other such places before it is too late (a steely blue eyed northern german described Bangkok as a tree lined sleeping town when he first visited it in the 70s. Can you beat that?) ; a 18 year old recently traveled from Samana' to spend two days with me.
But coming originally from India, a poor third world country as you know, I really dream of a beach which is uninhabited and where I can buy fish from the pescadores direct and put them on the parilla and make love with a woman on the beach. I have no need for malls and fancy restaurants. My Four Seasons days are over! Frannie may just belong to that league and why would we not leave him there in his "ignorant" bliss? (smiley)
