I got lost last night in the Daipu Tunnel entrance area, and happened upon a dark street that had about 5 window parlors within 2 pr 3 blocks, with girls sitting inside in their tight short skirts. Hey NOrth / South. Good report and I agree. You get what you pay for. I tried the BBS scene once. I went in and changed my mind and left never doing the deed. There was a string of them close to the Marriott Pudong East. I walked in a few but as dirty as the place was and the quality of the girls just didn't work for me. I did try a really dirty massage shop once with a 100 rmb admission (HJ and roaming included). It was a quick session with someone else's dirty tissues on the floor. I could only imagine...... Gregory.[/QUOTE]I tried sofitel for September and October and coming up with $300/ night? Reasonable? I can usually stay at hilton for $200 or less. That is within walking distance to Judy's or Manhattans (3/4 mile) or a 25 RMB taxi ride. I usually walk there and ride back with my date.

I thought you wanted a nearby hotel to monger at judy's and Manhattans and could not bring a girl back to the hotel because of your colleagues. I like the Hilton because all speak english and it has western amenities. I have done the local thing and sometimes a little Chinese food goes a long way in my book. I speak enough Chinese I can do it. I just prefer a hotel where I can get a western breakfast.
Anyway, if price is a concern, I believe Jing An hotel behind the Hilton Shanghai is much cheaper (use to be close to half the hilton price) and probably a 3 star. If it's not price or location near Judy's I must have missed what the request was for.

I've walked the area at night and have been stopped dozens of times but have been around to know they are probably some type of scam or overpriced massage.
In HK, Thailand (all places I've been), Singapore or other parts of China, all the local massage places offer extras for just a little more than what you can get elsewhere and that's what I was looking for.
I questioned the area since I walked it a couple of previous trips but thought there may be some hidden gems in the area. I'm not much of a takeout person and would rather go to a massage parlor or sauna and be done.
I have 2 nights here so if anyone can still point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
I'll try one of the massage places in the area and report back as to how overpriced they are.
When you see foot massage and body massage for 90 and oil massage for 250 ish, is that the same as oil massages in Thailand where extras are assumed (with a tip)?
Sofitel in Nanjing Road East is a nice, not overly expensive and convenient hotel to get to from the Airport and to get to places that brought you to Shanghai, which I presume was business and not mongering. It is the hotel you stay in and the area is not to monger in (expensive and full of scams) . But like getting to the places of business, the hotel's central location will be a nice easy hike to get to places of play outside that area.
