Please advise
I am trying to plan a trip with the new missus for New years to Bangkok and Phuket, was trying to make it alone but she insisted on coming. I have researched this forum but am still not able to make up my mind if Patong beach is the best area to stay in or not. my dates in Phuket will be 30th Dec till 3rd Jan, so I am wondering whether you can advise me which beach area would be best to stay in, can find hotel accordingly, although if someone can recommend a hotel too it would be great. I need to be near the normal touristy action for the missus but not too far from the P4P places, so I can do my thing on the side, in the MPs ideally.
Please advise, have researched a lot , but am just getting more and more confused.
Thanks a ton in advance.

Hi there,
Patong is fine but busy and noisy, especially at night. patong beach is pretty much the same. Kata beach is nicer with stil oads of shops and about a 20 min drive into Patong at night. Kata does have a few MP and small girlie bars though so might be a clever place to be as the missus wont suspect anything. trust me one night walking down the famous bangla rd with the missus will certainly be awkward, esp if one of the girls you may see recognises you and waves at you! kathu rd is about 10 mins walk away from patong which is ok- if you are looking for a realy cheap hotel with a pool with nice clean rooms- patong palace hotel is nice. there is not an abundamce of MPs in Phuket compared to Bangkok, its mainly girls and ST.
Anyway, good luck and enjoy!

Stay at the Deevana... it's about $35 a night for a room that's a cut above most of the ones in Patong Beach. It's also only a 5 minute moto ride from Bangla Road and 10 minute moto ride from Christine's MP. Christine's MP is probably your best bet if you're with someone. Read my posts from Sep 2006 for more details.

Ciao[/QUOTE]Hi fellow mongers,
This is my first post here - great forum and great info.
I only know Patong Merlin on your list. They do have a fitness center which seems to be quite ok. I do not know about diving. But if you are into that, there are lots of diving spots all around.
This hotel is definately NOT girl friendly. They charge a joiners fee of 800 b per night.
Bit -imho its a very nice hotel, not too far from the action, very quiet. I personally stayed there twice.
Have fun

Looking at hotels
I have been looking for a hotel in Phuket that I can have 3 people stay in with out having to fork over even more money for the 3rd person. It is myself and my friend and her friend. We are going to share the same bed and all. I am looking for something in the range of 25$ to 35$ a night for a 2 week stay. I saw the blue sky residence and was wondering if this would fit what I am looking for. This is my first trip to Phuket and I am just looking to relax and no headaches. I am having my friend look for the planes with a travel agents in Bangkok and I told her to see about a package deal for this. Is this the best bet to do because online every thing is a lot more expensive so I am trying to compare.

I stayed out here. They have some great air con rooms. It's also ideally located. It should meet your budget. ANd being centrally located you will save yourself dough on transport.
