Let other newbies read it DIRECTLY from you: that almost nobody in Cali speaks ANY English (except at Hotel Intercontiental and the Marriage Agencies) including at the airport when you try to negotiate a price with a taxi and explain where your hotel is located. Also, while guerillas are not a problem IN THE CITY, there is is almost NOTHING to do in town besides chasing chicas and once you leave town you enter FARC country. While the guerillas stay outside the city, the criminals and drug gangs do NOT!
This is not to say that you cannot have a good time in Cali in reasonable security, but good judgment (and luck!) is essential. Cali is NOT Nuevo Laredo or anything.
I think you will come to regret not choosing Cartagena, despite having to take a connecting flight (Aerorepublica has a nonstop between Cali & Cartagena 4 days per week), but only time will tell. You CAN help educate other newbies as to your experience. Good luck (you'll need it!)
Hi Surfer,
You mentioned something that I've been a little curious about. Seems like I read somewhere that you drive through quite a bit of the countryside and see lots of mountains on the ride to & from the Cali airport. If that's the case, are there many incidents of guerillas/FARC stopping people going to or coming from the airport?
Also, if you were interviewed by Customs upon returning to the US, what would you tell them was the purpose of your trip? That question has been easy for me coming back from the places like Rio and BsAs, but Cali?? Sounds like that one would require some creative thought. How have your experiences been?
Thanks,
Y & R
Are you getting some kind of kickback? You have mentioned him 4 times now? And I asked you for your email to discuss. No reply. Odd.
Cali is NOT Nuevo Laredo or anything.
31 Americans kidnapped in Nuevo Laredo in less than a year. 17 still unaccounted for.
Colombia gets all the bad press, but Mexico is starting to catch up, and in my opinion is far more dangerous for Americans than Colombia is.

Just say you think Colombia is a nice place to go on vacation cause you like the people, it's affordable, and you enjoy learning new things like Spanish language or salsa dancing.
Hey Dudes,
The city of Cali rest near some hills, but the airport is located in the valley about 25 minutes from the city. I've been to Cali a couple of times, but never got the impression from the locals that it's a dangerous road. However, I have heard it's dangerous in the hills above Cali.
BTW, what's up with that? It seems whenever I travel to cities in South America the areas in the hills above a given city (flavelas in Rio/Comas in Lima) are always the most dangerous. Is this where all the nonconformists and revolutionists of S.A. reside? I guess a view of the city doesn't put food on the table.
Customs agents usually know what's up when they see a single dude returning from a country like Colombia. They know your not there on a mission from greenpeace. I straight up tell I went there to bang puss, and it usually generates a chuckle. Obviously, this approach works best with the male agents.

I have a good friend who lives in Cali. He specializes in hooking up Americans/Europeans with amateurs/semi's/pro's. He's lived in the city most all his life. He has a shitload of contacts and knows where to and where not to go when in Cali! PM me if you want to get in touch with him. Not sure what he charges. He speaks perfect English. What I especially like about this guy is he doesn't drink. So I can go ahead and get ripped and know he's got my back.
I also have a Calena amiga whose father is a taxi driver. I'm sure she could arrange a pick up to and from the airport. Keep in mind, she's not a pro and he's oblivious to the mongering scene.
Guys, last thing. The TLCWorldwide.com (one of the more successful marriage agencies on the net) is having their annual party in Cali in a couple of weeks at the Hotel InterContinental. Guys, this is a golden opportunity to pick up on some extremely hot amateurs. Just go and hangout in the lobby of the hotel or the bar while this party is happening.
You won't be able to enter the room (it's a $1,000us) where the actual party is happening, but there will be a shitload of chicas milling around the hotel. I went to this party several years ago and there was over 900 calenas and only 90 dudes. I went the following year mill around and avoid the $1,000us fee. First night, I nailed a girl who remembered me from the previous year. Give it a shot if you happen to be in town at the time of the party.
Late,
Judd
I will tell them I went for some nice pussy! What is the difference? And that American women make me physically sick. And that they may just as well be men Now what are they going to say to me? Is it illegal to go there? NO, I don't think so, Who cares what the answer is.

Hi Cachorro,
Thanks for your response, amigo. If that was a rattle snake it would have bit me. I laughed to the top of my lungs when I read your post! I think what you mentioned in your post would be a perfect response. Thanks again for the good advice.
