Hi,
I am going to DR in a few days, and I was wondering is the curtview still in effect. I mean it really sucked to see everything close so early. I will be going to santo domingo. So if the curtview is still in effect, is there any late night action at all. Or should I go to Blackbeards instead?
I know this is crazy but is Sosua and Puerto Plata also closed at night?

The curfew is still in effect.
I was in Sousa last week. 1 am closing. 2 am closing on Friday & Saturday.
Last week the closing times seemed flexible. Classicos closed at 2:30 instead of 2.
The casino in Sosua, Playa Chiquta, has a disco inside where the bar closes at 4am. Everyone goes there after the bars close in Sosua.
Cabarette, I believe, is the only town that closes at 2 am & 3 am on weekends.
I'm sure the curfew is still in effect in the capital and Santiago.
The casinos seem to have an exemption.

In Cabarete are the same times in place as in Sosua 1 am closing during the week 2 am closing on Friday and Saturday.
In Cabarete above the Ocean Blue casino there is a nightclub wich stays open till 5 am in the morning.
200 pesos covercharge to get in.
In Puerto Plata closing time during the week is midnight and friday and saturday night 2 am in the morning.

I apologize in advance, but I could not find the post that answers my question. I am arriving at POP Airport, and need to get to my resort in Costambar. I know that I can get a taxi at the airport; however, I remember reading a post about a service that charges a fixed rate for transporting to Costambar.
Please advise me if you can.

All of the taxis are fixed rates. You shouldn'y pay more than $35-40 USD, tops

Patrk39 is right about the pricing. As you leave the airport terminal and go to the right there is a taxi stand with prices listed on a board to different locals in USD. Taxis that I have used like the USD vs. the DR peso.
The important thing with taxis and motochonchos (as with about everything else in the DR-including most chicas) is to negotiate before hand. The posted price I saw last time I was there was $40 USD if memory serves correct. Most hotels will arrange the taxi to meet you at the airport if you contact them about it also and give them flight details.
Also, if you need to exchange some money, after you go through the main gates to Costambar, have the taxi stop at Jenny's Market and wait as you go inside to get your pesos there. You can't miss Jenny's as it is less than a minute from the main gate on the right. The taxi never charged me for waiting while I do the cambio thing. Don't exchange at the airport if you can help it as they rock you there.

I arranged a flight to Santiago next month connecting through New York. My problem is that it connects through different airports. My ticket is through American Airlines and I could not pass up the price-$308.00 total from PIT.
I arrive in LGA and depart JFK with a total window of just under 3 1/2 hours. Escort King gave me a link a while back for a bus service but the link no longer works.
My question(s) is, is there a bus service that I can trust to not screw up my "vacation" and make my connections or am I being too cheap and take taxi for this service as my best option. Like all frugal mongers I want to save my hard earned dinero for my exploits, but I don't want to be stupid about this either.
Any advice here and links to the service here would be GREATLY appreciated.

There is a bus that goes to all three airports but you never know how traffic is. You can take a cab that will run you about $30 bucks or take the bus I belive it's called Empire and they charge arond $12. You can also tell the cab you want to go to the Jamaica Station and catch the Airtrain that is a straight shot to JFK.

Caribe tours is the bus service. They have 2 stations in Sasntiago. Try to get to teh main one. TAxi there should cost 500 pesos. The bus is less than 200 pesos to Sosua. takes about 1 and 1/2 hours. or TAxi to Sosua for 80 bucks.

I live in nyc and I can tell you that counting on ontime arrivals is risky. What I would do is call up a car service and have them meet you in the baggage claim area when you arrive. There is one service called carmel car service 212-777-7777 or 1800 -777-7777.
I assume the cost would be around $40. You can take a cab but sometimes the line for the cabs into manhattan take longer than taking a shared shuttle ride.
I know you got a good deal on the ticket but sometimes it just isnt worth it.

I think I may have screwed up here. I am exploring the carmel car service option first, followed by the taxi option.
It is too late to change things now, so I will probably sweat it out until I am finally on the plane to the DR. I got blinded by the ticket price and opened up a can of worms for myself.
