Have a question for the experts.

I'm a white guy and speak some Korean. Have never used any services. I checked out some of the local sites, thought about trying to contact some places but they say you have to call from an unblocked phone number. I'm concerned that some may LE. Are stings a thing in Korea? Anything to watch out for? Am I being too paranoid?

Also anyone have any luck with the establishments in Seoul or Suwon?

Throughout the years I have found out the best way to find really good places is to have a Korean friend take you to local places that might be difficult to find as a foreigner here. In my experience some places that may not accept foreigners will accept foreigners when they are with a Korean friend. Good luck.

I called maybe 10 establishments last time I was in Korea (a month ago) and was up front about the fact that I was a foreigner. No concerns about police or stings. The ones in Gangnam (gangnam station specifically) and some select areas near Bundang / Suwon said no or didn't respond / pick up. I got way more hits than I thought I would. Some places around Gangnam (again, not gangnam station itself just look at a map and the local sites and you'll figure it out) were more than happy to take my money. I met with both Korean and Russian girls. In this mongers opinion, paying the premium price for a shorter time with Russian girls in Korea ain't worth it, but they are definitely more foreigner friendly.

One officetel Korean girl I visited even let me do BBFS CIM with no extra charge. Idk if she was feeling it with me but damn that was pretty awesome LOL. Not the standard operating procedure in Korea though so don't go in with high expectations. SE Asia is still way better but if you're dead set on Korea mongering, officetel is the way to go. Befriend a local or learn some basic Korean--navigating the sites can be difficult if you don't know the language and slang. I actually sat down with the manager of a lip cafe and asked him to help me understand some of the slang that Google translate can't figure out. Being polite and honest goes a long way. Once you start going deeper into the korean scene and start understanding what is available (language ability absolutely essential), it completely removes the rose tinted glasses and you start to see the value of what your money gets you.

I've met officetel and lip cafe managers that are very down to earth dudes and are willing to help IF you give off a good vibe. I wouldn't befriend most of them for lengthy times though as they are often in and out if the scene, and if they get in trouble with LE guess who they'd probably rat out first LOL.

As I've said before, if you can order food delivery on the phone in korean, making an arrangement for an officetel or lip cafe isn't any more difficult. You'll pick up more terms and slang the more you navigate their sites and speak to the managers and providers. Just let them know you're a foreigner at the earliest opportunity and if that's ok.

As for SE Asia, 5th trip in 5 months for me. I really need to slow down now haha! Be warned, it WILL ruin korea for you!

Never pay via bank transfer. If there's no record it should be OK even if establishment will bust earlier or later. One is currently under investigation BTW.
