Last time I was in BKK it was around may and it was buddha day then, almost no action to be found.

The junta has stated that they want a more "moral" country, and obviously if they want to they can really clamp down on the industry.

But they will also have to change the laws, as was pointed out on here several times prostitution is legal, solicitation is not. So any place that is not obvious should be able to slide by under the current set of laws. That being said, when has any military ever really cared about law.

Tuesday night I went for the first (and last?) time to 101 Premier Massage on Suk soi 26. Had the absolute best MP service ever, to the point where I went back Weds for a repeat, very rare. Everything on 24/26 was shut except the fuglies. Returned this evening and most are open except 101, and the website seems to be down. Drat and double drat!

Had pretty good service at Angel also off 26 but it was not epic like the 101 was. Wonder if it will return?

And, if so, doesn't that trump the "current set of laws" quite apart from whether the military cares about the law?

If I remember well there was some kind of time-limit.

But even if martial law is still if effect, that probably does not "trump the current set of laws". Certain laws and civil liberties will be set aside and the Army will get extra rights to investigate, arrest, . . . It doesn't mean they are allowed to do anything they fancy. Of course that is the theory.

In practice? Who knows? For the time being they seem to favour a policy of soft changes, through PR, educational programs, billboards, TV messages, ...

Given that "martial law" was transformed into a regular coup and the Army is now in government with no effective parliament controlling them, they can of course publish new laws which will become "the current set of laws".

Seems they are open alright, several shops have mailed me back saying its business as usual.

And of course stickman has reported on this as well.

Websites are still down though, which is no surprise since they don't update them either, so I would not be surprised they are going to be down for weeks still.

Which sucks cause doing the research and checking the girls pics is half the fun.

.[/QUOTE]Martial law certainly still in effect. Most aspects of life are not affected, it's just that things are less predictable than they used to be here. Some places are shut down every now and then, for more or less blurred reasons, and mostly for a short time. But you will always find a way to get your stuff done.

After all, this is still Thailand.

Another Bangkok resident reported seeing army humvees on the sois in question.

(I'm not sure why a humvee was necessary. Maybe the soldiers feared that surplus lubricant would require a 4 WD vehicle on those sois.).

This person's comment was that the gov't. Were after the "indiscreet" businesses. I don't recall ever having seen anything about Mango or Tulip or Snow White or Cherry that was indiscreet. I'm guessing that if the website uses the terms "A+" or "A-level" or has "ladies pages" that are actually useful to a potential customer, that the business is now indiscreet. Maybe this is why Tulip shuns a website.

I recall how Clinton was shut down overnight for no good reason I've ever heard of. There was a nice little horse shoe near the Ruamchit that is also gone. I also remember Asoke Plaza and Asoke Corner vanishing into the past. There was even a branch of a the BJ bar whose name began with "L" there for awhile. Asoke Plaza had to go, I suppose. Girls one the sidewalk shouting "Welcome" that close to BTS and then MRT probably was a bit much. I'm surprised that Cowboy has survived.

I haven't been to Saphan Kwai by Pradiphat and Sutisan-Winatchai in years, even though I pass by often enough. Maybe it's time to visit, before the humvees make a visit of their ownl.

There was also talk of reducing the naughty no-no businesses to three areas: Pat Pong, Nana, and Rachada-Pisek. Maybe that idea never quite died.

Bamboo was closed today. Had to call one of the girls to go to an ST hotel instead.
