Based on reports here I knew the talent would be less and the prices high, so I had invited a Thai beauty over from Bangkok to stay with me. That turned out to be a good move even I had to cover her air ticket; I just love the vibe of Wan Chai and have seen the decline in number of cute WG's over the past 10 years. Those left are old and well past their prime. I had a swell time with my girl but the bars are a pale shadow of their past (6-7 years ago). Amazonia still rocking (cudos to Willie the guitarist and his friends at Ice House Band. The best ever! Joe Bananas also with good band. Hong Kong Cafe and Dusk till Dawn quite empty. Carnegies full on Wednesday night, but mostly western girls due to free champagne. As Chantik has pointed out here on the forum; there need to be more young girls in the bars, then the men will show up. With the current policy from HK immigration that is not likely. Wan Chai has lost it's magic for this hobby, but is still a good place if you also have other interests.

Hate to chime in with bad news, but I visited for a few days in December, and the usual haunts were pretty depressing. I had a meet up with a DH I knew from back when I lived there, but the bar pickup scene was much worse than when I was last there 2 years ago. Even Bar 109 on a Sunday looks to be exclusively working girls now.

Well for my last night in town, I took the easy road and repeated with my Thai spinner friend. She mentioned maybe meeting for dinner when we were saying our goodbyes in the AM, so I figured I'd stay with a sure thing rather than take my chances in the muddy waters again. She came over to Kowloon and we wandered around TST looking for a Thai restaurant she knows, but it turns out it closed, so we found a nice Italian place on Knutsford Terrace. After dinner she coyly mentioned that she'd heard about a bar nearby, in a hotel, and asked me if I knew any place like that. Said she heard it was a nice bar and wanted to check it out. Of course I knew she was talking about Hari's, and knew she wanted to do a little discreet professional reconnaissance! It was still early, before 10 I'm sure, but there were already maybe 6-10 ladies in the house, so any questions about whether or not Hari's is "back" can be put to rest for the time being at least. Unfortunately it was really loud in the bar and we decided to sit in the outer area, so I didn't get a chance to do any serious reconnaissance of my own. But first blush I didn't notice any real stunners, and I think the mix was about half Asian ladies, half European and / or S. American. I'd say definitely worth checking out in the future if anyone happens to be in TST.

After Hari's we decided to go back to Escape so we hopped on the MTR (HER SUGGESTION, by the way, in case anyone is thinking I'm a cheap-ass for not taking her in a taxi). She gave me the lowdown on coming and going with or without a lady at Escape, BTW. If a lady comes to the bar before 11 with a gent, she can leave together with him, no problems. If they arrive together after 11, they have to leave separately. She thinks it's because the management doesn't want to get in trouble with the police, but I'm not sure why since all the other bars don't have that weird restriction. She even left right after we got there to go change, and despite coming back alone, we still left together later with no issues since we got there right before 11. Odd policy. Anyway we hung out, got a little drunk, had a great time at the bar and then headed back to my hotel for even more great times. It was a nice evening, a good end to a visit that started out in the shitter with the stinky PRC girl.

Despite what seems to be a definite downward trend in terms of the overall scene in Wanchai, and an upward trend in terms of prices, I do still quite like to visit, and I haven't given up yet. I wish I had occasion to visit more frequently, but I'll definitely be back.

Oh P.S. To jackthelad, regarding Neptune 3. To be honest I really can't say exactly why I don't like it. Maybe I've just always hit it on off nights, but I don't think I've ever seen any girls in there I was interested in, and the layout of the bar also seems to make it a bit difficult to really get a good sense of the place (and the ladies). It's so big, and people don't seem to mingle around, so it's hard to know who's on the other side of the bar without continually wandering around. Plus I've never seen it more than 1/4 full, even this trip when I went late on Friday evening.

Actually I have not been to a bar in Wanchai or HK where I have seen ample or even normal qty of Russian ladies. Have been to TST, LKF, Central and various hotel bars, I even remember going to a strip club on the other side of LKF there I saw Russian strippers but it was a complete rip off and not my choice.

Planning a few days trip to HK (via HK). Did some Reading here, want to clarify a few things-.

- the area is Wanchai, and all the list of bars mentioned here?

- prices run around 1000- ST / LT?

- the girls are all FLs. Multiple ethnic origins?

- girls have hotels or you need to take them to your hotel? Are hotels girl friendly? Any recommended hotels- mid range in the area.

It's really the only bar area with bars full of working girls, and yes they're all freelancers so no bar fines, etc. There's another bar area on Hong Kong Island where people occasionally report finding a freelancer or two, but it's hit and miss, not even worth venturing there IMO (that area is Lan Kwai Fong). LKF is overrun with tourists these days and not even worth visiting just for drinking IMO, although if you're a club guy I think there are a couple popular clubs there. Finally the other bar I mentioned, Hari's, is another outlier. It's in Tsim Tsa Chui, in Kowloon. It's worth dropping in if you happen to be staying in the area, but it's in the Holiday Inn hotel so it's mostly tourists plus a few working girls, compared to 100% working girls in select bars in Wanchai. It's also pretty small, so you'll be lucky if there are more than 10 working girls, and they're much lower profile due to the mixed nature of the place.

Your prices are too low also; inflation's a *****! On my recent trip I didn't really poll any ladies on pricing, but the stinky PRC girl wanted 1500 S / T and I talked her down to 1200, and I think my Thai Spinner was a bargain at 2500 L / T. Girls in Escape bar are way hotter than any other bar, so the prices are higher. I think probably 2000 S / T, 3000 L / T is what you'll be quoted, maybe even more depending on the girl. But negotiate, as always.

Ethnities: Generally Thai, Indonesian, Filipina, a few Vietnamese here and there, PRC girls are rare but not unheard of, a few South Americans, a few from Russia, a few Mongolians. Different bars have different ethnicities, to an extent anyway:

Escape 3: almost universally Filipina.

New Makati: universally Indonesian.

Hong Kong Cafe: mixed. Mostly Thai and Filipina, a few Indonesians, also where you'll find a smattering of Viets, maybe a PRC girl (that's where I found my stinky one), maybe S. American.

Amazonia: mixed. Thai, Filipina, S. American.

Joe Banana's: haven't spent much time here, but seems mixed SE Asian; didn't see any Indo or S. American girls the couple times I cruised through.

Escape: mixed. All of the above plus the few Mongolian and Russians; again IMO, different class of girl - 8's and above usually.
