But even though people are bombarded with sexual images all the time, sex is quite hard to come by and people find it hard to approach each other for sex. One has to be particularly careful in the workplace, because even a mild flirtation could turn nasty if it is not well received. So people are lusting in their hearts all the time, but very inhibited about acting out sexually.

You might consider too the UK version of "The Office" in which the prelude to sexual activity or new relationships is always the night at the disco or the office Christmas party, where alcohol helps the office workers to act out their hidden fantasies or reveal their true feelings. In one episode the deputy office manager is seen leaving after a night in the disco in the sidecar of a motorbike with the biker and his lady, headed somewhere for a threesome.

Then of course, if one wants to be precise, a. Statistical regression analysis. Since this is not a scientific study, I am looking at a general rule of thumb. To my observations, the upper and the lowest strata of the society care very little about the mores. People with little money have only to think of survival (and sex is a trading tool) and the ones on top of the pile care little for what the rest of the world think of them. It is typically a middle class burden. Perhaps your observations in DR also bear that out, as in what the statisticians call a Normal Curve.

Perhaps he picked the wrong word, but his comments do not follow. Just because a person is poor does not mean that the person devalues sex. It has alsolutely nothing to do with class or a group. I have met prudish Dominicans as well who wouldn't go near a cabana with a tourist even if they had no food in the frig. They may be the minority, but they exist.

About 7 years ago I met a young Dominican woman who had just turned 18. She was a very sweet, innocent girl, intensely religious, and always reading her Bible in between customers. I got to know her quite well over the next few years and we had many discussions about religion, in which she tried hard to convert me to her point of view. She also told me she was a virgin and that she was keeping her virginity for her husband and was due to get married shortly after she turned 21, which is what happened. A little before she turned 22, the marriage was apparently not going so well and she needed a stove for her kitchen, so she had sex with me 2 times, which was very extremely passionate and the memory of these sexual sessions always stayed with me.
