So yesterday I decided to test the spousal ban on travel to Tijuana. On Wednesday I contacted my cell provider and explained I was leaving the country on a top secret mission (jajaja) and it was extremely important that if I receive a call I need a way to avoid getting the International dial tone. They advised me to change my roaming settings to stop any roaming and also put the phone in airplane mode. They said I could occasionally go off airplane mode to check for messages and as long as I'm in airplane mode there is no way that international ringtone will show up.
Also here is an interesting tidbit about how this travel ban occurred in the first place. I have found the Whats up app a great way to message and phone a chica in Mexico. I would always delete all conversations and pictures that were sent. However after it was to late I discovered that any picture you receive on this app are automatically sent to the gallery photo section of your phone as a download. I hope this info will help someone in the future.
Ok for the trip report I arrived at noon and had arranged for the MBGF to pick me up in Zona Rio. As soon as I got in the car she seemed a bit distraught. And asked if I could help her with $100. She had just found out the abuela of the ninos had to have an emergency operation and she needed to send money back to the homeland. This was extremely out of character for her. But I did tell her I could give her $80 to help but that would mean no lunch and no hotel or we could just proceed with the plan and she could have whatever is left. As we are deciding where to eat she gets a call from some guy named Mea more, who tells her he will be sending $400 to help with her situation. Well he sure made me feel like a cheap fuck, but it did seem to relax her.
So since we had both been craving that pescado that melts in your mouth over at Chewin's we headed over there. We had a nice lunch with a shrimp cocktail and the filet Sarendeando and a couple lemonades the total came to around $30 including tip. After that it was off to Hotel Tijuana. Its one of the many love motels you will find in Tijuana the cost was $17 for 4 hours. Not as nice as La Mansion but it worked fine. Usually we would stay for the total 4 hours but I was nervous about getting back home at a reasonable time. So all in all it turned out to be a great afternoon. Got to the border at 3:45 luckily the line was only a 10 minute wait and I was in my car at 4 and home by 6. There was a slight scare when I found a voice message from wifey saying she was extremely suspicious when she tried to call me and the call went right to voice mail and she noticed my Mexican pants were not in the closet. (Mexican pants = jeans with the hidden pocket) . But since I got back to her 15 minutes after she left the message all was good.
On a side note I did ask the MBGF if she was going to be sending that $400 she was going to be getting back to the grandma and she admitted she would be keeping about half.
Hugo, that's a great report particularly the claok and dagger stuff. Not with the phone company but with the wife. Oh man, you need to get some extra Mexican pants to use as intentional disinformation.

Hi all,
I am planning a trip in July, not my first, to Tijuana. I have a reservation at Ticuan thru Expedia but I know they might not be open. I'm wondering what the other chica friendly hotels are down there around the same price / quality. Aqua Rio looks great but alas, no AC and it can get pretty swampy down there in the summer time. Please help. Thanks all.

$23 with a hidden concealment pocket. Can't be beat.
Or get hidden pockets sewn into more of his existing wardrobe items.
And when his wife does his laundry and finds out that 100% of his pants have been turned into Mexican pants, she's going to have questions. LOL.

BT
Can you define "chica friendly?" What did you intend to do? The reason I'm asking is that as Ticuan is nowhere near the Zona you won't be bringing girls back to your room all night.
Sadly, there is no other place near the Zona like the Ticuan. There are alternatives, but none as nice. Your other alternatives in the area are closer to a Motel 6 kind of place. I'm not knocking them. I've stayed at all of them at one time or another. But if you're looking for king beds, on-site bar and restaurant, etc. , there are none, with the exception of Villa de Zaragoza. The rooms are nowhere near as nice as the Ticuan, but they have on-site bar and restaurant, room access is much more private (no lobby to walk through) and I've gotten up to quite a bit of mischief there.
Other alternatives are Espana, Caesar's and Nelson. Again, nothing like Ticuan but they are serviceable.

I want a clean room, comfortable bed, decent A/C, and safety within a 15 minute safe walk to Zona Norte. Don't care about a bar, food service, valet, or any other luxuries. Motel 6 is fine when I'm paying out of my own pocket. Sounds like Caesar's and Nelson both fit that description.

Go with Caesar's.
Is there a Ticuan equivalent at La Playas? I'm not expecting the Ritz Carlton, but hoping for something a little more decent by the beach.

.
I have been burnt with that before, was caught with couple of naked pics in the photo stream. From then I don't take any more pics. Memories are the best reminder.
Why do you need a Mexican Pant? I have been mongering in Zona for quite some, been outside also to Pulgas and La Manison. Never felt unsafe. Though I do feel up my wallet every 2 minutes to make sure.

Well. Here it goes.
Ready for laugh? I packed, left Nevada at 3:00 am and the San Diego area (after.
Breakfast and hanging out near L. A.) around 10:00 am. As I entered San Ysidro.
I realized something terrible- forgot my passport at home.
Yep.
So, I drove back to L.A. and spent the next 2 days there.
Good times.
That's my report.

That's my report...
You can use your drivers license. I did the same thing a year ago and found out you don't need a passport to get back to USA.
Cost me a couple hours lost. CBP. May hassle you a little bit, but they will let you back in.
