Its a legal provision to provide ID proof. Each and every hotel, cyber cafe, gymnasiums in Mumbai are given notice by LE to collect ID prrofs of every guests and customers. If your frnd was a lawyer then she shud have known. For casual talks theres a lobby and lounge bar besides coffee shops and other restaurants. Most hotels are equipped with CCTV cameras in lobbies so even if you sneak in they do come to know and call. If you give ID proof then no questions asked.
