I totally understand the frustration that mongers often have the bathroom attendants. Some are very aggressive in requesting outsized tips for the "service" they perform. BTW I don't consider handing me a paper towel to be a service, since I would prefer to get one from a dispenser. I believe the real service they perform is in keeping the damn john clean.
But I don't go around the zona trying to insult or bother people, so I would never consider handing the attendant my used towel, nor throwing it into his tip dish. I would prefer to just toss a quarter or a couple of pesos into his propina dish. I would never consider tipping the bathroom guy 10 pesos or a dollar because that is too much for the service he provides to me for a [url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140][CodeWord140][/url] & hand rinse.

That was a very nice trip report. AnoX had a lot of fun with his 2 visits. Exploring a new place with your eyes and mind wide open is the best way to have fun.
After going to Tijuana a few times, the only new and exciting things are the fresh, young girls who come to Tijuana to work, and a few favoritas who came back after long absences.

Las Chavelas bathroom attendant had a similar setup with a row of cologne for customer use. I usually tip very well, 20% when someone provide an actual service. I'll take your advice and won't let something like this ruin my fun.

I think I'll start being more generous with these guys. Maybe a quarter per pisss or a dollar for a dump.

With all due respect, the AB guy deserves nothing. Tips should be voluntary. Commensurate with the level of service provided. The AB guy is demanding a tip by shoving his box in your face. A huge, classless breach of etiquette. Tossing a wet paper towel in his box is a harmless way to let him know his antics are not appreciated. I have no problem tossing other attendants up to $1 for handing me a towel but the AB guy will never get a tip from me.

Let me also commend you for not being afraid of your own shadow, and venturing all over Centro. You'll be an expert in no time if you keep that up. As you've already figured out, there is a lot more to Tijuana than just the Zona Norte.
I'll just toss in a couple of comments, in no particular order.
SMD offered the best advice on dealing with the bathroom attendants. They do a job that nobody here would do and, although I can't speak for the guy at AB, most get no salary and subsist on the tips they generate in a night. Any poster that suggests insulting or belittling the attendant probably has their own personal issues. You've traveled in Asia. Much like in Asia, getting bent out of shape, insulting people, etc. , is most definitely uncool in Mexico. On the bright side, speaking of Asia, the Tijuana bathroom attendants aren't nearly as irritating as the bathroom fairies in Bangkok. The ones that grab you as soon as your Johnson is out, try to give you a massage and play amateur chiropractor all at the same time. Then all 5 of them demand a tip. I'll take the AB guy, any day.

5 pesos to use a public bathroom is very standard in Tijuana. I can't say why those guys got in free, maybe they were friends of the guard. But, in general, everybody pays the 5 pesos.
Tacos, etc. , in the Zona tend to be more expensive than in other places.
Generally speaking, the really pretty girls in Tijuana tend to offer the crappiest service. There are certainly exceptions, and everybody's taste is different. But, overall, Mexican guys tend to like their women a bit chunkier. Gringos tend to like the flaquitas. There are many fewer flaquitas, overall, so the gringos tend to trip over their own tongues chasing them. There is absolutely no incentive for the real stunners to actually perform. As with you, I've gotten much more mileage from "MILF-ish" ones.
New girls may not actually be shy, they may just be used to working in a more "local" bar. Locals don't roll like gringos. In Mexico (and many other Latin American countries, I won't say all because I haven't been to them all. Yet.) the guys like to make the first move. So, the girls sit around and wait. It's considered bad form for the girl to throw herself at the guy. They guy picks out the one he likes and goes up to her. Maybe he sends a mesero over to fetch her. Gringos can't get their mind around that and tend to like the girls who are more aggressive.

I live on the east coast but travel to San Diego a few times each year for business. Sometimes I stay as long as 2 weeks and will visit Tijuana and Zona Norte almost every day. I sometimes travel to the area for vacations, primarily for Tijuana. Flying to Germany, Philipines, or Thailand is simply more time in an airplane than I care to endure. Haven't really considered Central or Souh America. So far, I've found exactly what I wanted in Tijuana with minimum problems at an affordable reasonable price.
Today I'm heading to the airport for a brief business trip in San Diego. My normal schedule for this trip would have me visiting ZN on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. But with all the problems, I'm not sure that I'll even leave San Diego. Drug murders. Muggings. Police problems. Reduced quality and quantity of girls in ZN. It's no longer the Men's Disneyland that I think of.

My recommendation right now would be to only spend time in the zona if you're banging a chick. If you're not balls deep, don't be standing around in the alley, get out of there. Go get a massage, go to Caliente and gamble for a bit, go smoke a Cuban at LCDH, whatever you like to do, go do it. A lot of mongers don't realize that there is a lot to Tijuana outside of mongering and the zona. That was my MO when I was in Tijuana last month; I was never standing still in the zona, and I got out when I was done. Never had a problem with the police or crime or anything like that.
These overnight Tijuana trips are becoming harder and harder to pull off. But thanks to Caprese7 and some text messages that looked like we would be in San Diego for the Padre Dodger games, and due to the rooms in San Diego being a small fortune because of the Cisco conference we were going to have to spend the nights at some cheap Tijuana Hotel.
I know there are some out there that think all the reports of Zona Norte shootings are just rumors and others who believe you would be crazy to head down with all the gunfire. I personally think these days it is best to travel by cab and limit your street exposure. Upon arrival I meet up with a buddy who's job puts him out on the street 12 hours a day and the first thing he says is you just missed a shooting by a few hours. Turns out there was another drug related shooting over by the Hotel Leyva. After hearing the shot he saw 2 guys running full speed he thought the shooter was chasing another intended victim. But it turns out one guy was shot in the head but it missed anything important and more like the bullet grazed him. So much for rumors it does seem to be a pretty regular thing these days.
I have found a two day Tijuana trip works best for me. The first night I can hang out with the fellas and get drunk touring the Zona smaller bars. Its just not that much fun in either HK or AB on sausage fest nights. And the 2nd night I can hang with the MBGF and have a nice dinner and end up at Las Pulgas. So that is pretty much how things went it was just another night of drinking in La Carreta Tropical, DG and La Gloria. The only out of ordinary thing that happened was close to the end of the night with the last stop being La Gloria. My wingman who brings a few props along seemed to be getting some attention with his drunken antics from a girl sitting at another table. She was watching him and laughing and then look at me and we would both start laughing. Of course the part that got my attention was the girl was drinking regular size beers. So that added a whole new dimension to the situation. She was sort of dressed like a hooker and she was with another older lady who was dressed pretty conservative. But I had to believe she was not working since she never approached anyone and with the regular size beer I guess its safe to assume she is not working.
So eventually I go over and ask her to dance and during the dance she was very receptive with her hands all over me. So the first dilemma comes when we are finished dancing. I have spent a lot of time in La Gloria Bar and know it is customary to tip a girl a $1 after a dance. But I was thinking if she is not working would that be considered an insult to hand her a couple dollars ? Well I did not tip her but as the night wore on she kept making eye contact and I did end up sending some beers over to her table. And she soon came over to sit with me for a little while. I never did figure out what was up with her as far as her work and what she was doing there. Several meseros showed up to see if I wanted to buy her a drink but she would just wave them off. She also wanted to take pictures of the 2 of us together. Not sure what that was all about since I'm the opposite of guapo. I'm a little concerned of those pictures surfacing and it might hurt my chances of one day becoming president. Eventually her friend gave her the head wave indicating it was time to go. I never did get her number but I might be able to track her down on facebook but that will take some searching.
I ended up making it back to the room at 5:30 am So that does create a problem for day 2 with little sleep and hungover I had to head off to meet the MBGF. I checked out of Cascadas by 10 and took a taxi to her place. It turned out to be my scariest Tijuana cab ride by far. So this guy reached 90 mph on the Via rapido and with a seatbelt that didn't work I propped my backpack in front of me to act as an airbag as he wizzed in and out of traffic. I was sure my life was going to end in a Tijuana taxi.
After spending the day hanging out. With the Ticuan still closed and looking for a Hotel with parking within walking distance of Las Pulgas we checked into Aqua Rio. I never knew it before but they do have some air conditioned rooms now. $495 pesos for the night this Hotel and Las Pulgas are 15 to 1 on the pesos so not much of a bargain as other places who offer different rates. We ended up having dinner at the Italian place over on 9th and Rev. A nice little place with great food and a very popular wine drink that everybody seemed to be ordering. I stuck to lemonade but the GF ordered 3 of them and was already drunk when we left. Good thing because I was in no condition to drink. And as we hit a few more bars she didn't know it but she was doing all the drinking. I kept switching the beers around so she was drinking everything. We ended up at Las Pulgas but didn't stay to late. She became the friendly drunk while at Las Pulgas. At one point she kept staring at a couple girls at another table pretty soon she was over there sitting with them and I assumed they were old friends. Later when I asked her about it she said she didn't know them and I said what were you talking about, and she said they were very pretty and she asked one of them if she would be interested in going out with a friend of mine who might show up. She said she was interested and I said did you mention my friend is siempre hambre por culo? She said she forgot that part.
So it turned out to be a nice weekend in Tijuana. Going back on Monday morning there was an hour wait. I did expect it to be worse. As I was crossing I did hear the CBP guy discussing with someone they had detained that they were giving him a break by allowing him to return to MX and leave whatever it was he had there and then getting in line again and starting over. They also told him if he tries to cross with it again he will be held for 8 hours and fined. Not sure why he couldn't just dump whatever it was there and proceed.
I was in Zona Norte Sunday and last night. Sunday afternoon also. Not many chicas Sunday afternoon in HK or AB. No more day trips to la Zona for me. Plenty of chicas at night.
I stayed in Zona Rio. Taxi fares are killing me. I plan to stay in la Zona next trip. There or I will try the ticuan. I won a 1000 pesos in the casinos which helped subsidize my trip. I felt safe the whole time I was in the LZ. I didn't notice a very large police presence. I circled the AB / HK area. However, once I crossed back over to the US side, I heard two gunshots. I parked in the lot across from the outlet mall. This was at approximately 1 am Tue morning. I haven't read of any incident occurring at this time.
I live in North San Diego and have been wanting to check out zona norte but I have a couple questions.
What day should I go on? Would a Wednesday be OK? And what time? Are girls outside all day or just in the evening (And on certain days?
I can't get any of my friends to go with me so I'll be solo, I imagine that this has advantages and disadvantages. Is it awkward going in a club by yourself?
Also I'm in my early 20's, I just need some action. I traveled to SE Asia which was a lot of fun so this won't be my first time. Am I going to stand out for being young and tall?
I've read a lot about how Tijuana works but just want some reassurance. I park and cross the border, and then walk / take a taxi to zona norte (which should I do? And where do I tell taxi.
Driver to go.) I've watched videos of all the girls standing outside buildings, are they all "available"? And how do I approach them / how much is the cost?
Also I don't want any trouble with police, any tips? I just want to go there, have a little fun, and leave.
This forum is fantastic I'll definitely report back, and probably with pics.
I know this is loaded with questions, and I should probably just grow a pair, but I'm nervous that something will happen and my family / friends will find out and it would probably destroy my social life.
