I spent a night in MNL in February (on my way to Angeles), and a friend took me around different spots in Manila. Don't remember the price off hand now, but could have sworn it was more than that. Anyway, my friend had business to take care of in the morning, and I ended up picking up a lovely at LA Cafe.

And four fun days in Angeles.

Just wanted to stress X-mans point on taking sea air instead of Asian Pacific. Asian Pacific may appear cheap, but they overbook and then its first come first searved. There are no guaranteed seats on Asian Pacific. I knew this, arrived two hours before the flight, and still didn't get on the plane. I had purchased a ticked with a confirmed date, but it made no difference. Since preference is given to all of the people who didn't make it on the prior days flight, every flight gets pushed back indefinately. This way, they get full flights every time and can offer the cheapest prices. This is the second time in three flights that this has happend to me but being the cheap guy that I am, I still flew with them as I thought that by arriving early, I would get a seat. Since I live here, not the end of the world (but I will never use them again), but for international travelers with international connecting flights, you should be aware of this issue. Maybe the worst thing about them is the way they handle it. As soon as they book the last seat, every one disappears and a security guard comes out. There is no one to even to complain to. And if you ask the security guard why you cannot board the plane even though you have a "confirmed ticket", he says that you are late because you did not make it to the counter within 45 minutes of departure. Being in line two hours before departure doesn't count. I guess arriving 4 hours before the flight would work, but even I am not that cheap.

Once again I am overwhelmed by this input of opinion and experience. What a great site for us all eh? How can you tell I am Canadian eh?

I believe it is hard to make concrete plans as the world goes round and round and we have to go with the flow and what feels right. So i think i will play a wee bit in Manilla , and then do what i intended and get to a nice beach area and i heard that puerto GAllera is really beautiful and has some night life as you mentioned. I think Angeles is from what i hear a bit tackyish. a small pattaya. For me a nice bungalow on a beach with my honey po close by with my glasses in her purse and a bar a stones throw away and i'm in heaven. Can't wait. and i will post if i survive. drinks are on me if your in the area.

Please tell us more about the ferries. What are the different shipping lines and what class would you recommend?

Anchored off the coast of Boracay was a large vessel. I noticed some people had some sort of discount coupons in their hands, but I don't remember the name of the shipping line, nor the price. I think this is an overnight ferry, so you save the money you would pay for a hotel.

If you go to PG, you can take a ferry from Batangas, which will drop you off at the “ferry terminal” in PG. You can then walk around, and find accommodations which suit your style and budget. I stayed at the Atlantis, which is a dedicated dive resort, with nationalities from all over the world, families, couples, and single guys with their hired help. There are dozens of hotels and guesthouses; it should not take you long. But there are no idyllic thatched roof bungalows on the beach, if that is what you are looking for.

I certainly wouldn’t say PG itself is beautiful. There is hardly any beach, and no beach at all at high tide. I think to call it a town is a bit of a stretch. It is more a few alleyways, restaurants, discos, and bars. As I said, I didn’t do any of that scene, but just walking around after dinner, you could see the “ladies of the evening” getting ready. There are some very cute ones, and some, how shall I say……not so cute ones. A barometer of mine, has often been if the girl smokes, and the quality of her HP. That will tell me how hard core she is (JMHO, YMMV). There are quite a few who look like they have been around the block several times. The girl my fiend picked up was a newbie, and I believed her. She was too sweet an innocent and helpful to be seasoned.

I did go to Boracay 25 years ago, and it was heaven. Same thing with Ko Samui in LOS. Don’t want to spoil the memories though, and will never go back to either of the places. But if it is your first time, you’ll definitely love it. Maybe seasoned Boracay vets can chime in, and let us know if there still are wonderful little beach front cottages, with great girls and service.

OK. A little OT.

So, I am in the States but keeping in communication with a girl in Manila. Her cell phone is terrible and often won't let her send or receive text messages at times and she often has to take it to the repair shop. When I go back, I want to buy her a phone as a present but I want to buy it here and bring it to her.

I know most Filipinas are comfortable with Nokia and that is what she has now. I was thinking of getting her a Nokia 6820 the one with a camera and opens up to a full keyboard but I also want her to have a nice phone representative of her "American BF"... :)

Anyone know an inexpensive "in" phone? I can get a 6820 for about $150.

there are reasons for this,seaair is german owned and german run,it is owned by erin dornier,the grandson of the founder of dornier aircraft and his greek partner nick gitsis.this is the reason ,it is not a filipino airline.secondly there is no airline called asian pacific.could you be talking about asian spirit or cebu pacific.go with seaair,their high speed dornier is currently the fastest to caticlan.they can make the trip in 35 minutes.next time you are being bumped off by asian spirit,try this technique call up their manila reservation office at 8511794,confirm your flight in manila then tell the counter staff,you are already confirmed by the office mr rodriguez,their vice president,if she wants to bump you off,you will call mr rodriguez and you will have the counter staff explain to him,why you are being bumped off.90% of the time,they will back done and bump somebody else off

Thanks guys, I really didn't mean to cause any consternation, I just didn't understand. I guess I would have just called it her cell myself, but even that could be confusing.

I just got back from Boracay. It is definitely not what it used to be. Although it is still nice, it's been overdeveloped, as any Filipino will tell you. They still have the white beaches but the hotels have grown in size and you will be hard-pressed to find a spot in the water where you aren't in danger of being run over by a boat as it comes in to shore. Not to mention the jet skis, parasailing, banana rides, etc. I enjoyed my stay but won't go back. Especially since the quality of the girls can be pretty low. Comparing it to Puerto Galera, which I visited in December, I found Puerto Galera to have far less in the way of beaches, but the amenities were better and the girls were better looking. You still pay a high price on Boracay since it is viewed as being a bit more exclusive (I watched a Filipina actress named Princess get married to a foreigner on the beach).

By the way, I know what you mean about preserving memories. I lived on Koh Pangan (off of Koh Samui) for a month in the early 90's before the island turned into a giant full moon rave party. Incredibly, it was so prestine and quiet I slept on the beach with just a fire and a beach blanket. I'll never go back knowing what it looks like today. The question is, where to next?

Thanks to my man JR (He is the King of Night Life in Manila ) I had some great action during my short stay in Manila. He took me to a couple of "Casas". The first one was sort of dead but the second had at least 30-35 girls . I pick two beauties paid 2500 each for all night. Was a great time. Later picked up a beauty from LA Cafe befoe leaving town. In the past JR. has gotten me whatever I wanted. Freelancers, Pros ect for great prices. I recommend anyone coming to Manila for the first time hook up with him and he will give you the low down on whats really happening in Manila and how to avoid the pitfalls of the hustlers and sham artist. I know these things are fronts for PFP but I'd be interested to know if any boardmembers have actually hooked up with any of the LBFM's from one of them.

I know a few months back somebody in the Govt went on the warpath and busted a bunch of these places in manila as well as Cebu and of course fight fuck or go for your gun city here in Davao, but I'd appreciate any details from fellow mongerers, you can PM me if you like,

First time I was on Samui, Ko Phangan was viewed as an out of the way island with nothing on it. " Why do you want to go there", the locals asked. "It'll never be developped" they said. HA !

Boracay 25 years ago, was paradise. Bungalows, clear water, quiet, empty. The way you have just described it........... not for me thank you.

The PI is dotted with "millions" of little islands. There has to be a few which are still pristine.
