Peninsula Hotel
You can check out the link Jakarta 100 Bars in classified section also. Hotel Travel Ph: 0216012721, Fax: 0216293810
Tried to call that number but it appears to be offline!
How about Peninsula Hotel? Isn't that nearby to Hotel Travel and Lokasari Plaza?

Standard rooms are 330, 000 IDR, which is a bargain for that area I think.

Re: tight budget
I'm arriving in Jakarta for the first time on Wednesday and staying for two nights. I'm on a tight budget. I'm planning on staying in a super cheap backpackers place in Jalan Jaksa (70k per night) , maybe even a hostel dorm, and then just taking a room for short time with a girl from Blok M, maybe Malioboro? It offers short time (up to 6hrs) rates of 200k, which seems to be as cheap as it gets for GF hotels. Are there any others that are cheaper or similar rate?
This way I get everything I want for about 270k per night (200k for short time in Marioboro + 70k for my luggage and extra sleep in Jalan Jaksa). Am I going to save money this way, given my taxi rides to-and-from Jalan Jaksa, or am I better off just paying a bit extra to stay at one of the IBIS hotels in Kemang, which seem to go for about 410k per night? Could I negotiate that rate lower or are the prices reasonably "fixed"?
Man, are you sure you can afford this trip? Do you realize the costs? I think you should consider a hotel like Hotel Melawai I or II in the Blok M area if you are going to mainly be doing Blok M at night. Or consider a hotel like the Maharadja Hotel. These kind of hotels are like 1-2 stars but combining what you think you may pay for a room in JJ and then pay for a short time room somewhere else, it's probably not worth all the hassle to be taking all the taxi rides. You'll have to get another taxi after you do the deed to get back to your bed after wards. In the daytime, maybe you can take those buses to get to those other areas that you are trying, but I'm not an expert here, but from my past experiences I'm not sure how your plan is going to save you money. I don't even know if you can afford what you are doing or even know the costs.
..... Check if My Place or better known as Bali Hai is still there. Just around the corner from where the blok M bars are located....
Yesterday it still was. Funny place for the late afternoon and they have rooms upstairs. A bit more precisely: In Palatehan walk towards the bus station, then two times left turn and the second house from the corner (with columns and black glass doors). Some like it and some hate it!
Have fun,

NO
Otis Elevators used to have a big sign right beside it so it used to be quite easy to spot. I have only been there once back in the mid 90's but thought it had closed down as I could never find it again after the Otis sign was taken down. Nice to know its still there as the Old Boys used to hang out there and probably still do. I won't be going back tho.

The hotel is above Plaza Indonesia, where you can spot WG's inside and outside the place. Within walking distance of the Hard Rock Cafe, which is also decent hunting ground and about 30-40K taxi ride to Blok M (depending on the traffic). About the same amount to Stadium and less to BATS (Shangri Lah hotel) , CJ (Hotel Mulia) or Tiga Puluh (le Meridien). We surely will appreciate your report.

Smoking Rooms
Getting back to jakarta soon and trying to book a smoking room online. Most of the 4 and 5 stars are showing only non smoking rooms. Anyone stay at any good 4 or 5 star hotels lately that are sure fire smoking locations. Recently ready a Jakarta post article and it is reporting most major hotels will be going non smoking. That is not good for our smoking members and our quests. I mean this is jakarta and it is all relative but if anyone knows a good one please let me know.

But it sucks to have to leave the room at 2 am for a smoke. No way I would leave any woman alone with my luggage LOL. Thanks that was one of my first choices, I will check it out again
