Since I received a lot of help from the forum members, I thought it is about time to detail my experience. Nothing really new, but some of it may be helpful for newbies. Recently, I spent 10 days in SPB. Major interest was touring. We were kind of involved with a host russian family for the tour and did lots of normal stuff. However, we had plenty of time to ourselves for mongering.
The perspective of this report is from the standpoint of non-Russian speaking monger. Because of my extensive mongering experience in other countries, very soon, I determined that the best way to spend my money is to visit salons. Although, one night, I contacted one of the independents to come to my apartment. She was ready to come, but my telephone line was apparently a shared line [I complained to Oksana about that]. When another woman answered my phone, she got scared and that was the end of it. I never tried after that for any outcall. There are excellent reports posted in the REPORT OF DISTINCTION section, especially by Spangle and GandJim, regarding the salon scene. It is very easy to master the metro system in SPB. With a 34 P roundtrip cost, that is your best bet to reach the salons. However, there are other practical problems, even when you reach the buildings (mainly to get the door codes and the apartment numbers, since I did not have a cell phone and don’t speak the language properly). Make sure you have the telephone number of the salon. What I did was to look for a young Russian male, who speaks English, approaching to his car. I just handed him the telephone number and let him make the call. It worked every time. One time, I got so impatient waiting for a young man, that I walked into a store borrowed a phone from the nearest girl and in my limited Russian was able to get the door code. A word about the door code. Sometimes they give a code like 9B. B is like the star button (the lowest left button) in our phone system. After hitting the B button, wait for a while. The electronics takes time to take effect. Once it goes through the cycle, you hear a beep and sometimes OPEN is also displayed. Another observation regarding buildings: if the building has multiple entries, always try the ugliest one first. In one of the buildings around 11 PM, there was absolutely no light on the staircase. We always carried a flashlight and that saved the best experience of the trip. It got quite hairy when we discovered some questionable figures at the top of the stairs in the pitch-dark. With this little intro, I will give you some details of the salons, I visited. Two of the girls speak great English, so obviously the sessions were great. I mainly visited the photomodeli places, since the girls really look like their photos.

This is the only night I really regretted that I did not master the language. This place is full of possibilities. Wall to wall girls. One of them was eyeing me. Before I made the move another young Russian picked her up and within a split second they were kissing each other on the dance floor. If you speak Russian, must visit this place.
[b]METRO,[/b] went once. You get 4 soft drink coupons with your admission (may be 200 P). As has been said, this is really for young kids. I have nothing to do here. Left after an hour.
[b]MAGRIB.[/b] Our apartment was 100 meters from this place. We stopped by every night for late night snacks. There were a few for the takeout. One night they were very aggressive. But they are not my type. By now, I thought they were nowhere near to the salon girls in quality. And I was certainly not prepared to shell out 5000 P for subpar material.
Inside the bar, the girls who were on the menu, again, were not that attractive. The attractive girls mostly came for dancing and having a good time. The girl I was interested, seemed to me, will be very expensive and refrained from making an offer. In my experience, these money hungry girls are never a good bet for the bedroom activities. No regret.

I took the train to the Russian consulate in Ukkel. As I approached the right house number, I saw people queuing up... outside... in the rain. Great! :p

You must know your exact entry and exit dates before applying for a visa. Once the visa has been issued, those dates cannot be changed.
One of the requirements to obtain a Russian visa is travel insurance valid in Russia.

I took the Eurolines bus from Tallinn to St. Petersburg. I called the Eurolines office in Tallinn to make a reservation the day before. The girl on the phone spoke perfect English and informed me that the schedule on their Internet site was outdated:

I’d booked a transfer with Oksana Apartments (15 EUR). They consulted the Eurolines website to find out which bus station I would be arriving at (final stop). The website was wrong and the taxi was waiting at the wrong bus station.

The location was perfect. Both apartments were magnificent. Cleaning service was included, but the maid often knocked on the door at inopportune times. :)

- Fast Wireless Internet was available in both apartments. I paid 20 EUR for 8 days.

I bought a Russian SIM card (MTS Russia) for 180 RUB while waiting for the taxi at the bus station. That was the easy part.
Topping up my card proved a lot more difficult. You need to send an SMS to recharge your card, which won’t work if your balance is down to zero. They finally managed to get the job done, but you shouldn’t wait until you run out of money before recharging your card.
