According to the regulator, the bank should have reported the thousands of over-the-counter cash deposits of under $10 k going to the middle east for various nefarious purposes. Furthermore, the bank was supposed to track and report the thousands of small payments going to the Philippines, being sent by mongers. As Gofer has mentioned, you can guess what all these $20 and $30 transactions were for. They were not to help with the new roof for the local Catholic church.

If you are a monger from Australia, your bank and the AFP are closely watching all small transactions made to the Philippines. Your internet provider would also have all of your details. It would not surprise me if there were deliberate traps set up. You would be completely stupid to engage in any cam show action with LBFMs in the Philippines.

My squeeze lived her first 14 years in Southern Leyte, speaking Bisayan. Then she moved to Manila and has spoken primarily Tagalog since. She sometimes tries to school me--in English, of course--on differences in the two languages, but at my age my memory is like a sieve. Not much sticks.

A couple years ago we visited a couple I know in Digos, south of Davao. She was right at home again speaking Bisayan with them. They got to conversing for a bit and I could pick out a few English words intermingled with native language. At some point I sensed that some of the native words did not sound like Tagalog, so I asked whether they were speaking Tagalog or Bisayan mixed in with English. They stopped for a moment, and suddenly my friend laughed and said, "we're speaking all three. We don't even think about it, whatever word comes to mind when we want to communicate an idea, that's the language we use at that point. " We all laughed.

I suppose I could have been offended that they didn't speak English so that I could follow along, but I realize I'm in their country, not the other way around. I can think of few interactions in the states in which three Americans could suddenly start speaking German, French, or Spanish in order to accommodate a foreign visitor.

I don't make fun of my squeeze's occasional English stumbles, since I speak such limited Filipino, but occasionally some humorous English malapropisms flow from her mouth. When I point them out we usually both have a good laugh. But yeah, making fun of Filipinos' sometimes broken English is a little like allowing yourself to utter racial slurs when nobody of color is within earshot. Humor of this type in the forum is a little like being in an all-white group in which somebody thinks it's okay to start talking some racist shit.
