I don't really care where the border is and where exactly the place I'm going to like MBC is. Before I get in a taxi from say like Makati or what not, I ask them first if Ermita or maybe Malate is ok to go to with them as some may prefer not driving to certain areas for some reason. As we are on the way I am more specific to where to go. No taxi driver has ever corrected me on what actually is Ermita or Malate, just a couple people here. In the end, I arrived at where I needed to go, and to me, that's all that matters. I'm not worried about the actual specifics if the locals aren't. It may be more important if dealing with police or someone like that, but I try to avoid those.

Boundaries have to go somewhere, and you picked out Ortigas simply because it is sited literally at the boundaries of Pasig, Quezon City and Mandaluyong.

With all boundaries it might seem arbitrary but the MMDA has very clear boundaries delineated, and as a Pasig-based resident of Ortigas Center I can say that the police know where these boundaries lie. Check out http://www.openstreetmap.org/ for the exact boundaries and you will see how complex it really is.

For example, I had an altercation with some street kids on ADB Avenue near my condo a few months ago. I went to the closest Pasig police outpost and the officer on duty asked me on which side of ADB Ave did the incident occur. When I told him which side he told me that I need to go to the Mandaluyong Police as it is in their area because ADB Avenue constituted PART of one boundary. As you walk around Ortigas you can tell where you are because the traffic controllers wear different uniforms whether in Pasig, Mandaluyong or "over Meralco Ave in Quezon City".

A Cebu resident pointed this out about boundaries between Cebu City, Mandaue and Lapu Lapu too.

The northern part of the street belongs to Ermita & the southern part is Malate, and each side of the street is a different place.

Robinsons is actually in Ermita; Eurotel is in Malate.

None of this makes any difference whatsoever to most local people EXCEPT when you are purchasing property. Best to use street names to tell a cabbie where to go, such as "Robinsons Pedro Gil entrance or Robinsons Padre Faura entrance" , "Sogo on Mabini" or "MBC on del Pilar" etc

Arrived yesterday and worn out. Place is across the street from Robinson mall. Fantastic location. 43rd floor amazing view of the bay and city. I was pretty worried about the area at night. Went out last night and no issues so far. Walked to cowboy from the mall and cowboy to mbc. No issues but it is dirty and a bit nasty. I was walking down the street and a lady is pissing on the sidewalk. No worry last night of issues, but it is nasty and dirty- I will use a cab from now on.

Besides that the location is great.

The bay is beautiful now as I am looking at it through the huge double windows as I type.

So tired yesterday I barely made it to 11:30pm. Music was great upstairs at mbc. Banged a fl who was ok looking, but great in bed. Sent her on her way and went to sleep. Today I am ready for some real partying.

I have been to a couple of bus stations from the airport when going from Manila to AC, but which station should I tell the taxi to take me to when I am leaving from Ermita?

It is convenient and they will drop you off at your hotel in AC.

Swagman's Fly-a-Bus to AC has been reported by passengers of not having air conditioning.

600 pesos from Ermita to your AC hotel is a good deal. It's much better than taking a long taxi ride in jammed to the bus depot somewhere on EDSA iin Manila's East side, waiting hours for the bus to depart, then paying another 500 pesos for a tuktuk from the drop off point to the hotel.

I sat next to a very attractive, college-educated single mom in her early 30's on the bus to AC last year. The nice thing about Pinays is they all speak good English. She could speak educated, sophisticated English. It was sad to hear her life story, how she married a guy, had a daughter, then her husband abandoned them. She left her 10-YO daughter in the care of her parents and went to Manila looking for work, but not finding any. I asked her to join me few a few days tour of the Phil, but she declined. Would have been nice fucking her tight, slinky body.

Good communication with the Phil girls often gives much better physical and emotional satisfaction, compared to girls in other Asian countries. If you know where to look, you can find some stunning beauties here. I really enjoy their companies as tour guides and sex partners...

in august, eva air is flying lax to mnl for $961 with one stop in taipei, about 16 hours, not a bad deal. eva air is fairly civilized, although their flight attendants are mostly pudgy.

philippines air is flying direct lax to mnl for $1, 150, about 15 hours, not a bad deal either. pinays are the only asian who speak good english, well, singaporeans too, with their clipped british accent. i sort of like to talk to pinay flight attendants and hear about their prolific sex life.

you can fly asiana air for free if your life insurance names me the sole beneficiary. hehe.

air fares may go down even more after school start in early september. at this low airfare rate, i may risk the famous belly landings and go see my pinay sweethearts.

PM[/QUOTE]Shortest flight I believe is PAL, they have what they call a direct or non-stop from LA / MNL, which actually makes a fuel pitstop in Guam for about 45 minutes before heading on to Manila. Absolutely the worst long-haul airline I've experienced from a customer-service perspective, and not necessarily the least expensive.

Most airlines fly thru Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea or eastern China first. Those initial flights are the longest, typically 14+ hours, and I find them to be the hardest (with a short hop on to Manila after). Some of the american airlines fly thru Tokyo first, about 11 hours, plus 4 hours on the final leg, and I prefer to break the trip up like this. United Airlines flys LA / Hawaii / Guam / Manila, breaking the legs into 5, 7, and 3 hour segments. My ANA flight to Tokyo on the 777 had great service and the longest legroom on any longhaul flight ever (their 767 on to Manila was the same). The return trip was a codeshare with United, also a 777, with one of the shortest legrooms I've ever experienced (ranked down there with China Southern).

Least expensive is often China Southern. But you'll fly 15 hours to China, then 4 hours to Manila, and all of my flights with them I've felt like a canned sardine.

I tend to recommend Cathay Pacific and ANA. Try searching on Kayak.

PM[/QUOTE]My view point is. Get the pain over with in the least amount of time. You can catch a favorable fare and suffer for fifteen hours with PAL. There is a PAL flight that leaves LAX at 11:30 gets there (MNL) at 19:00. Unless you fly first or second class. You will experience the pain. Man it out and get it over with. The Philippines is worth the suffering. Have fun and do not get married!
